Creative Workshop Series @PMQ is featuring Sindart – the embroidered shoemaker since 1958 as a pop-up workshop in June. Sindart shoes became known for the detailed embroidered patterns of goldfish, phoenixes, and flowers on silk brocade since Mr Wong found the brand. Now it’s in the hands of his granddaughter Ms Miru Wong, the third-generation owner of Sindart, who is modernizing the brand while inheriting the traditional embroidery crafts to create different patterns and apply them to footwear, bag and decoration. You will learn basic embroidery skills during the workshop along with getting to know the history of Sindart and traditional embroidery arts through the exhibition.
Don’t forget to check out other workshops that involve traditional techniques and contribute to the inheritance of crafting skills. PERFECTLY IMPERFECT Bracelet Workshop by Playback Concept uses the Mokume-gane technique which was first developed in the 17th century in Japan. It is a metalworking procedure, which produces a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns as well as that laminate itself. Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. In the workshop of Origami in Silver by Lucy Shih, you will use a unique thin sheet of 99.9% Silver clay metal to explore the ageless skills of Origami. During Traditional Silversmith Enamel Ring Workshop by Loupe, you will learn to make your own silver enamel ring using traditional silversmithing techniques taught. From annealing, forming, filing to polishing and enamelling, experience the art of traditional silversmithing and the satisfaction of making a personal ring.
