Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is one superfood that has managed to make a name for itself amongst the health-conscious fellows and the like. Coming from the acai palm tree, which can only be found in Central and South America, acai berries are known to provide a myriad of health benefits such as preventing heart problems like arthritis, aiding in weight loss and improving skin health. So if you’re planning to make a switch to a healthier lifestyle for good, or having those days where you just want to cut out the sinful stuff and go for healthy alternatives, here’s our round up of five places in Singapore where you can earn some good health points by consuming some acai goodness.
Project Acai
The only thing harder than pronouncing acai correctly is finding restaurants specialising in healthy superfoods like the eponymous berry. Project Acai will whip you up some ‘tabao’-friendly (that means ‘takeaway’ in Singlish) super bowls with a frozen smoothie-like, berry-tasting base topped with a variety of fruits, cacao nibs, and granola. Aside from those bowls, there are also smoothies on offer.

Absolute Acai
Tucked away in Pickering Street, CBD drones can now enjoy a healthier option of ice cream at Absolute Acai, without feeling all guilty. Using absolutely tasty acai from Brazil, you can devour the frozen puree goodness in a bowl, or cup. And if you’ve a sweet tooth – just like us – the acai bowls here can be quite fruity and sweeter than the usual.

Afterglow
Receiving a thumbs up from one of our graphic designers, this trendy (thanks to its industrial-chic interiors) go-to spot for raw food has some impressive plates like an addictive raw nut ‘cheese’ dip made from cashews (while it doesn’t exactly taste cheesy, it is still delish!), a deconstructed sushi bowl with mild wasabi dressing, and even flavorsome acai bowl with bananas, salted tahini ‘caramel’ and raw walnut brownies.

Super Loco
If you skim through the menu of Super Loco hard enough, you’ll realise that there’s an Acai Super Bowl amongst its smorgasbord of scrumptious Mexican food; and boy oh boy, it is super indeed. Made up of acai with gelato-like consistency, and topped with mango, blueberries, coconut, quinoa, chia and granola, the Acai Super Bowl from Super Loco is definitely the bomb.
