Ambassador of Yayasan Saraswati & Puteri Indonesia 2022

I’m proud to say I was the first Balinese to represent Indonesia at Miss Universe, and honoured to share my culture with the world.
Tell us your story – how did you get here?
I returned to Bali during Covid in 2020, after graduating from Fashion Business in Florence. I was so disturbed to see Bali in such a sad state. The streets were deserted, businesses were closed. When friends suggested I should join Puteri Indonesia, I decided to give it a try. Bali had never won before and I figured, if I took the crown, it would surely make my community proud. I believed it would be good for Bali.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I guess winning Puteri Indonesia 2022 is what I am most proud of. In the history of this national competition, I am the first Balinese to win, and, of course, the first contestant from Ubud to win. It is something I had not planned, but winning has given me a platform to express my opinion and take part in raising awareness on literacy and education. It has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing leaders and inspiring people.
What impact have you made in Bali?
After winning the crown, I suddenly became someone that people took notice of. When I speak, people now listen. I have been able to express my concerns about so many issues and it’s great to have a voice. I do hope I can be a meaningful part of a better Bali. I’m proud to say I was the first Balinese to represent Indonesia at Miss Universe, and honoured to share my culture with the world.
What does the future look like for you?
One of my great passions is fashion. I plan to become more involved in the local fashion scene and find ways to support young designers and even artisan weavers, those creating beautiful textiles that are now appearing on the runway. I am working on some exciting ideas that I plan to bring to fruition next year.
What do you love most about Bali?
Growing up in Bali, experiencing life there before it got more crowded and developed. I love the people and the culture and I feel so privileged to be a part of traditional life. I also love and respect the Balinese women, especially our home staff, who have taught me so much.
If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?
I would probably advise myself to just have more fun, spend more time with friends and do more things that make me happy.
Who is your Local Legend and why?
For me, the Local Legends are the Balinese women. They are so devoted to their families and to their culture. They work so hard, from the early hours to late at night, and are always elegant and gracious. They are an inspiration.
