Hearty pastas, mouth-watering pizzas, and decadent tiramisu; loosen your belt notches and indulge in an affordable gourmet feast at this new pizzeria
It’s official: Capitol Piazza is well on its way to becoming the city’s newest dining hotspot – what with the awesome line-up restaurants, cafés, and world-famous dessert spots. And the latest addition to mall that’s sure to tempt the foodies is Spizza Mercato.
A fresh, new concept brought to you by the pizza-loving folks at Spizza, this new Italian pizzeria is where casual dining meets gourmet cuisine. And the result, as they say, is molto bene.
It’s no surprise that Spizza Mercato is modelled after a typical Italian marketplace. Perfectly positioned amidst the backdrop of Capitol Piazza’s water fountain, the bustling dining spot is both warm and inviting – thanks to its chic yet modern interiors decked out with marble counters and sleek wood furnishings.
But the main draw is, of course, the all-day dining menu of affordable gourmet fare; think soups, salads, antipasti, tortas, and paninis, which start from as low as $5. We recommend starting off your meal with a classic Italian antipasta: a dreamy trio of creamy burratina cheese, slivers of salty Parma ham, and peppery ruccola salad ($22). Another must-try is the Pollo ($10) – hard to go wrong with chicken wings, especially when served with a choice of arrabbiata or honey sauce.
The delish starters done and dusted, it’s time for the main draw of Spizza Mercato: its hearty, thin-crust pizzas that any Italian nonna would approve of. The menu is similar to what you’ll find at Spizza; classics like Margherita (tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and fresh basil, $19/$23) and Anna (tomato, mozzarella, bolognese sauce, and mushrooms, $18.50/$22.50), as well as signature specials like the crowd-favourite, Quinta (tomato, mozzarella, black truffle, and egg, $19/$23). The only difference? Spizza Mercato offers the option of gluten-free pizzas.
The feast continues with a bevy of pasta options for those seeking a serious carb fix. Exclusive to Spizza Mercato (and nowhere else) are the stuffed pasta specials – the Green Spinach Triangoli ($14/$18), stuffed with spinach and mushroom in a porcini cream sauce was easily our favourite part of the meal. And we hear that the White Plain Torelloni ($12/$16), stuffed with three cheeses in a butter and sage sauce is another winner.
Once the meal has left you fully sated and a few inches thicker around the waist (it will), don’t forget to make a pit stop at the dedicated retail section – packed with fresh gourmet ingredients, Italian wines, and kitchenware for you to bring some of that Italian goodness back home.
