One of the best ramens in the world is opening along Orchard Road, and even features unique ingredients like truffle sauce and red wine
All the Michelin hype has died down, you say? Not just yet. Just like how the Michelin Guide made history in Singapore with the reveal of the world’s first Michelin-starred hawker stalls, it also awarded the chef-coveted accolade to Tsuta in Tokyo – the first Japanese ramen eatery to join the ranks among the best restaurants in the world. So why does any of this matter? Because come October, this ramen champion will be setting up shop in Singapore, proof that the ramen craze here is far from a fluke.
Run by Chef Yuki Onishi, the reputation of Tsuta in Tokyo is one to behold – imagine queues that start at 6am, just to snag a ticket for a seat when the stall officially opens five hours later. And despite its popularity, the Tokyo flagship outlet has only nine seats, and Chef Onishi doesn’t serve more than 150 bowls of ramen daily. While we don’t know about the bowl count in Singapore yet, we are aware that there’ll just be 18 seats in this new opening at Orchard’s Pacific Plaza (it’s also Tsuta’s first and only overseas branch), so be sure to expect monstrous queues for this comfort food staple.
Three types of soup bases will be served in Singapore: the shoyu (featuring a decadent and unconventional black truffle sauce), the shio (a chicken-seafood blend with fragrant hints of red wine and rosemary), and the miso (a more traditional recipe for ramen purists). All bowls will include thick, slightly-fatty pieces of char siew meat, and Tsuta’s signature noodles made from four types of whole wheat flour. We already know what you’re thinking, and we’re definitely on the same page – yes, we’re gonna try ’em all.
