Is it beef? Is it lamb? Test your tastebuds at this unique dining concept on Beach Road. A must-try for 2016!
On the hunt for a special date night experience, birthday party venue, or just looking to try something new and different in 2016? Whatever the occasion, you can’t go far wrong with a trip to one of the most unique restaurants in Singapore. As a concept, dining in the dark sounds like it should be up there with the very best of bonkers ideas (chocolate teapot or inflatable anchor…anyone?), that is until you actually experience it. Sitting firmly in the so-barmy-it’s-brilliant camp, expect several strokes of gastro genius served up in perfectly pitch black surroundings. As well as bagging yourself a free post-dinner drink (more on that later, you lucky things!), here’s the skinny on why you should add a trip to NOX – Dine in the Dark to your 2016 to-do list.
1. To test your foodie prowess
Think you can differentiate between lemons and limes? Or beef and lamb? You might want to think again when you can’t actually see what’s on your plate. At NOX, each course comprises four small bowls filled with unknown delights, served in a dining room shrouded in utter darkness. Eyes are rendered useless as your other senses are forced to up their game and figure out what the hell it is that you’ve just put in your mouth. Fear not, folks – invariably, it will be something so delicious that you won’t really mind what it is. All will be revealed at the end of the dining experience, at which point you’ll uncover who really is the biggest food buff around the table. Sound like fun? Trust us – it is!
2. To find out how interesting your date really is
Still trying to figure out whether your date has all the gear but no idea? Take ’em to NOX and find out if their banter is worthy of another date. With nothing to look at for distraction, dinner here will definitely sort the wheat from the chaff. Though with much debate to be had around what you’re eating, no doubt the convo will remain in full flow. Check out the Valentine’s Day special menu on 13 and 14 February; this gastronomic affair is bound to impress even the most discerning of dates.
3. To try something new
It’s oh-so-easy to order the same thing every time you step out to dine (burger and fries please, waiter), but we say it’s time to get out of your foodie comfort zone and see what you’ve been missing out on all these years. At NOX, there’s no wasting precious time deciding what to order as the set menu remains a total mystery until the end of the meal. Don’t be fooled into thinking that dining here is a one-off experience; menus change every six weeks so chances are, you’ll never be served the same thing twice. Currently on the menu du jour is a yummy three-course French-inspired fusion affair – j’adore.
4. To check out the delicious cocktails
This ain’t just a foodie affair. Prior to dining, you’ll find yourself in the NOX cocktail lounge sipping something quite delicious. Pick your poison or let the bartenders whip up a surprise. Oh, and remember that free post-dinner drink we mentioned earlier? To bag one, just quote HC116 and you’ll find a tasty tipple in your hand faster than you can say ‘Was that venison, or beef?’. Don’t forget to head on over during Singapore Cocktail Week (13-19 March); there’s no need to dine in order to enjoy these beautifully crafted concoctions.
