This year, the fasting season of Ramadan officially commences on 27 May 2017. But that doesn’t mean that the capital goes to sleep! Granted, things may move a little slower, but once the sun comes down, the festivities begin with a major feast. From Middle Eastern hotel buffets to luxurious Indonesian comfort food, here are the best restaurants for buka puasa in Jakarta. And the best part? Sofia at The Gunawarman
Treat yourself to a grand affair, by booking into Sofia at The Gunawarman’s Ramadan special. For a dazzling buka puasa deal at sundown, head to Mandarin Oriental’s Cinnamon, easily one of the city’s best dining buffets. The restaurant celebrates the cuisines of the archipelago with an Indonesian Nusantara theme, featuring Kambing Guling (roasted milk-fed lamb) from Central Java, Nasi Bali, and Bakso Malang. Of course you want to break your fast on a sweet note can look forward to local ta’jil and traditional Indonesian desserts and jajanan pasar such as Bubur Shafar Madura, Kolak Pisang (our favourite!), Es Campur, and various shaved ice treats.
