Mark your calendars foodies! Singapore Food Festival 2014 (SFF) has been locked in for 11 to 20 July, and it’s going to be a special 20th edition with the theme – ‘A Walk Down Memory Lane’. Head down to experience Singapore’s rich food legacy and relive the best memories of the festival’s 20-year history.
The 10-day festival launches at Chinatown Food Street, which will be enlivened with iconic Chinatown characters from the past such as samsui women and coolies. SFF has always celebrated the innovative spirit of Singapore’s culinary talents and establishments and this year’s no different – think fresh new concepts, new dishes, and a variety of experiential dining events.
Check out pop-up concepts like South East Sliders @ ION Orchard, which will see Chef Damian D’Silva serving traditional dishes like beef rendang and chicken debai reinvented into sliders, and keep your eyes peeled for Nyonya Mobile – a roving food truck that’s all about modern Peranakan fare. One of the biggest events of the festival is Suvai 2014, which consists of a medley of activities like master classes, international chef competitions, and family cooking challenges organized by Indian Chefs and Culinary Association (ICCA).
Besides sating appetites, SFF aims to provide an experiential platform for folks interested in Singapore’s dynamic and diverse food culture. Get introduced to over 20 uncommon Chinese dialect dishes, like Hakka Abacus seeds and Hainanese chicken rice balls, at the Singapore Chinese Dialect Heritage Feast, or immerse yourself in an alfresco Hawaiian BBQ experience at Sentosa’s BBQ by the Beach. Singapore’s premier mall ION Orchard will also be hosting a local food trail offering sampling and demonstrations of iconic Singaporean dishes such as Peranakan kueh5, chilli crab, and kaya toast.
