In this month’s round up of Hot New Tables, discover two new offerings from Union Group, a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich shop, a sexy tapas bar, and a humble Middle Eastern street food diner. Ahead, the new restaurants in Jakarta to put on your April dining bucket-list.
The Dutch
Union Group’s latest is a modern gastropub serving up pub grub with a twist. The Dutch, named after Chef Chris Moes, specialises in elevated comfort food like homemade sausages and cured meats. Beer-lovers will also be treated to an extensive selection of ice cold beers on tap. If you’re visiting with a big party (or just down to drink a lot) try their one meter beer: a meter-long tray featuring all seven of their beers on tap. We also recommend that you come hungry, as you’re going to want to save room for their excellent speculaas toast dessert.

Smorrebrod
Is ooey, gooey grilled cheese sandwiches your thing? Smorrebrod, previously a pop-up market staple, finally opened up a permanent post in Gandaria City. The casual cafe is the grilled cheese guru of Jakarta, serving up some of the best sandwiches in town. Their classic grilled cheese sandwich is toasted to a hot perfection, with warm melt-in-your-mouth cheese made out of four different types of real cheesy goodness and chopped onions, chives, and tomatoes. You’ll probably make a mess, but it’s oh-so-worth it.

AMKC Atelier
AMKC Atelier is Plaza Indonesia’s latest gem. The gourmet eatery has only been open for a few weeks, but already are diners being wait listed if they haven’t made a booking beforehand. Must tries include their black truffle choux (we would pop these in our mouth by the dozen if we could), uni pasta with pork crackling, and the famous Teh Botol cake. Reservations are recommended.

The humble cafe serves up a plethora of Middle Eastern fare like Lebanese lamb and tagine chicken, but it’s their Turkish menemen that’s caught our tastebuds – a hot dish made out of eggs, tomatoes, and spices that hits the spot at any time of day.
