Stuck in the West of Singapore and not sure where to eat? Fret not! We’ve got you covered as always, and no, we’re not talking about Rochester Park or Jurong this time around. Instead, we shine our foodie spotlight on Clementi – the residential town in the Western region of Singapore. Here’s our list of restaurants, cafes and stalls to fill your tummy in Clementi – munch away!
Chai Ho Satay
What’s better than grilled meat on a stick? Cheap grilled meat on a stick! Satay is known for flying off the barbie here at Chai Ho Satay as low as 38 cents a stick. As you can expect, monster queues are frequent at this Westside stall, so make sure you order a heap of satay on your turn lest you wanna wait 30 minutes for seconds.
Chai Ho Satay, #01-10 Clementi Central Market & Hawker Centre, 448 Clementi Avenue 3, Singapore 120448.
Carne & Caipirinha
What do cowboys, charcoal and churrascarias have in common? Make your way to the Wild West of SG (we kid; Clementi’s Sunset Way ain’t that far off), and you’ll find a meat-mongering 74-seater resto that will sum up that answer with one word: Brazil. For just $49.90, you can wolf down a carnivorous buffet without ever leaving your seat, as staff will personally tend to your meaty cravings via a traditional Rodízio (rotation) style of service.
Carne & Caipirinha, Clementi Street 12, Blk 106 #01-50 Sunset Way, Singapore 120106, p. 6464 0478. Open Mon-Sat 5.30pm-11pm, Sun 5pm-11pm.
Cupcakes with Love
Ditch the sweet stuff and embrace the wholesome bakes from Cupcakes with Love. Their aim is to use less sugar without scrimping on flavour, and their cupcakes hit the mark perfectly with the perfect balance of rich yet satisfying goodness. We’re particularly fond of their Matcha Marvel: a green tea creation that’s iced with light-as-air cream cheese frosting.
Cupcakes with Love, #04-33, Clementi Mall, Singapore 129588, p. 6570 6693. Open daily 11am-10pm.
Dario Pizza & More
Former chef of Al Forno, Dario Bonaccorso, now has his very own pizzeria after a three-year stint at the pizza stalwart. Dario Pizza & More’s all about the thin, crispy crusts – bestsellers include the salami and cheese-laden Diavola, as well as the Bomba (artichokes, mushrooms, bacon, and ham).
Dario Pizza & More, 6 Clementi Road, Singapore 129741, p. 9446 0253.
Prata Planet
If bland, watery curries rustle your jimmies, Prata Planet’s thick, spice-heavy curries will have you singing praises; pairs beautifully with its light crispy pratas that are never too oily. A great option for Westies since it’s just a short walk from Clementi MRT station too.
Prata Planet, #01-37, 320 Clementi Ave 4, Singapore 120320. p. 6773 0733.
The Tiny Roaster
Built on an intense passion for coffee, The Tiny Roaster is a both a coffee roasting studio and handcrafted brew java bar. While they take real pride in their craft and only stock quality green coffees sourced from across the world, these guys are no java snobs. Come down for a cupping session and see for yourselves!
The Tiny Roaster, #01-62, 106 Clementi Street 12, Singapore 120106.
Bell’s Cottage Café
Known for their great ambience and homely feel, Bell’s Cottage Café is the place to go for long coffee catch-ups with your girlfriends. Get their speciality – cottage burger with churros that comes with a scoop of ice cream – for a sugar rush!
Bell’s Cottage Café, #01-233, 354 Clementi Ave 2, Singapore 120354, p. 6779 3138.
Bucktile St. Cafe
Nestled in the west coast of Singapore, Bucktile St. Café is a charming café in a quaint residential neighbourhood that offers coffee, tea, cakes, ice cream, waffles, and tiramisu. Must-tries here include The blue velvet cake, blue velvet waffle and the flower pot dessert that is available in three flavours – tiramisu, oreo and horlick. Planning to hide away from the bustling crowds? This is the go-to café to chill and spend your day away reading your favourite book.
Bucktile St. Café, Faber Hills, 104 Faber Drive, Singapore 129412, p. 6566 7058. Open Mon-Tue & Thu-Sun 12pm-11pm. Closed on Wed.
Necessary Provisions
Slightly off Clementi, Necessary Provisions could be the pick-me-up that you need. Their Western menu speaks to the hearts of the hungry and drained: pasta, burgers, and breakfast options like banana nutella panini. Necessary Provisions provides for the Asian palate, too – pick up a sambal fried rice or buta don! This one’s also a real looker and is already gaining great Insta-traction, so hurry down to beat the hipsters at their game.
Necessary Provisions, 21 Eng Kong Terrace, Singapore 598993, p. 9231 7920, Open Wed-Fri 3pm-12am, Sat 11am-12am, Sun 11am-6pm.
