Painting Workshop in detail
Each week we will work on a set lesson plan which you can use as a guide only, using some form of art to express thoughts and feelings or to just let go and get in touch with your inner child. I will provide some basic art theory such as the colour wheel and also some fun abstract painting techniques as well as lessons being based around the following themes:
Gratitude
Mind Mapping Lessons
Self Exploration Lessons
Collaging Lessons
Trauma and Loss Lessons
Portraits
Happiness
Relaxation
Emotions – Journaling, Emotion Wheel, Line art to express emotions
Examples of lessons are as follows
Lesson Example: Visually express your gratitude. What are you grateful in your life? We can paint or collage to express the things we are grateful for.
Lesson Example – The Gratitude Tree – drawing or painting a tree, collaging leaves to the tree. Each leaf will be something that you are grateful for in life.
Your Guide – Doulene Walker…
Born in Zimbabwe, I have been exposed to art in so many forms from a very early age. Both my Grandmothers were extremely artistic, with one having many exhibitions. My first formal introduction with art, were lessons with the great, late, Peter Birch. I continued with art throughout my schooling and afterwards throughout my life.
My art has taken many turns, using many different mediums. I began with Oil landscapes and I have now found my true love in abstract artwork using a variety of mediums, including oils, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, graphite and ink.
My abstract art requires that I trust my intuition and let go, adding texture, free flowing layers of colour, spontaneous movements, techniques and tools. Mark making features heavily in my work, from organic, abstract, spontaneous mark making, to more structured patterns.
I work predominantly using the alla prima method, however, I also at times paint using the indirect method, creating an initial layer of paint to help with composition and values
I have a desire to spread the love of painting with anyone that needs it in their life. Painting is freeing and liberating, it gets you out of your head and takes you to another place. There is no judgment, just you and your paint, creating beauty. Painting creates freedom to release life’s pressures, allowing you to step into a peaceful zone of canvas, paint and brush.
