Kenya
Kenya Bahana Sastropawiro, affectionately known as Kenya, is a Yogyakarta-based DJ whose practice is rooted in rhythm, groove and sound system culture. Raised in a grass-roots musical family, her early exposure to instruments and dance floors shaped a strong technical sensitivity to timing, texture, and low-frequency movement.
In early 2018, she joined the Yogyakarta-based collective Energyroom, where she developed her approach to DJing through close engagement with local scenes and experimental club contexts. In early 2024, she became affiliated with the Indonesian record label Talking Machine.
Kenya’s musical approach is rooted in rhythm, groove and a deep understanding of the dance floor. Her selections span a wide range of styles and eras, bringing together bass-driven tracks, intricate percussion, and subtle melodic elements. With a strong focus on flow and atmosphere, Kenya crafts cohesive sets that evolve naturally, responding to the energy of the room while maintaining a clear artistic direction.
Her sound reflects a balance between functionality and expression, making her a distinctive presence within club culture.
