A simple <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/ultimate-guide-best-local-singaporean-foods-drinks-and-desserts-you-need-to-try\/\" target=\"_blank\">Singapore dish<\/a>\u00a0you can find freshly prepared in most <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/hawker-centres-in-singapore-our-favourite-spots-for-cheap-local-food-in-the-city\/#7EQJxLKks5tpw1B6.97\" target=\"_blank\">hawker centres<\/a>, a popiah is a flour-skin wrap packed with <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/vegetarian-restaurants-in-singapore-where-to-go-for-meat-free-vegan-and-raw-food\/#x0UlzF9eCp1jFe1m.97\" target=\"_blank\">vegetarian-friendly<\/a> ingredients such as stewed turnip, fresh cabbage and carrots, ground peanuts (sometimes, with prawns and chopped eggs), and mixed with a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/best-chili-crab-in-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\">sweet chilli sauce<\/a>. Maybe I\u2019m just loyal because it was the first one I tried in Singapore (and it\u2019s the first stall you see when you get off the escalator), but it\u2019s still my fave. Nestled within the LTN Food Village, Auntie Rojak (doesn\u2019t get more homely than that!) always attracts queues with their signature popiah &#8211; packed generously with gravy-soaked turnips, crunchy cabbage and carrots, and ground peanuts. But on the occasion that I have a severe craving for it, I head to Maxwell Food Centre \u2019s only popiah stall, which serves up a rather delectable version. I think what makes this popiah stand out is that potent sambal. The homemade popiah skin is chewy, and not too dry. Every slice you have is packed with crunchy stewed turnips, sweet and spicy sambal, crispy fried bits, and of course, a generous amount of fresh prawns.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qiji.com.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Qi Ji<\/a>, available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qiji.com.sg\/locate_us\" target=\"_blank\">various locations<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-93930 alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/Selina-e1463046816794.jpg\" alt=\"Selina\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 100px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 100\/100;\"><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Selina Altomonte &#8211;\u00a0Stall #24 at Lau Pa Sat<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Some may be horrified, but I really dig the popiah at Lau Pa Sat\u2026 from the stall that doubles as a rojak, wings and pizza joint (shush now, food snobs: the prawn sambal pizza is pretty darn good too). The popiah here is fresh, nicely plump, and yes, I go for extra garlic!
