Life\u2019s most precious moments<\/a> are fleeting, and amidst the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh, you have but a second to grab that perfect capture. Our photography<\/a> trip to Cambodia with Panasonic offered us an abundance of such opportunities, allowing us to capture once-in-a-lifetime<\/a> shots with the GX8 and its 4K Photo feature.<\/p>\n

Upon arriving at Sisowath Quay in the wee hours of the morning, we were instantly drawn to a group of children playing by the riverside. They were bursting with energy and all smiles as they scrambled, pushed and shoved to get a spot in front of the camera. Of course, this makes getting a focused shot a bit of a challenge. The 4K photo feature \u2013 that lets you shoot a second of video, select a frame, and save it as a high quality (8mp) photo \u2013 came in handy here, saving us from the tedium of relying on trial and error as the kids zipped off shortly after. In addition to the default 4K setting, the burst mode allows for shooting 30 frames per second continuously, while the pre-burst mode records a second before and after you hit the shutter.<\/p>\n

Our next stop was the ancient Wat Ounalom monastery. Its gilded spires were a breathtaking sight and a stunning example of Khmer architecture. We were so taken by the craftsmanship behind the building that we nearly missed some of the many photo opportunities around us. At the corner of our eyes, we spotted a monk walking across the street with a patterned wall in the background. Instinctively, we grabbed our cameras and scrambled to take the shot with the 4K photo feature set to burst mode. Our frantic and uncoordinated attempt to take the photo would have left us with one poorly framed capture. Lucky for us, after scrolling through many frames, we found one great picture that just needed a little cropping.<\/p>\n

While this nifty little feature offers photographers many practical advantages, what we loved most about it is that it changed the way we shoot, especially while on vacation. Often, we find ourselves glued to phones and cameras trying desperately to capture that perfect image when we should be enjoying the experience instead. The 4K photo feature allowed us to casually take images and still manage to capture split-second shots that we might not have noticed otherwise . We found ourselves spending more time taking in the scenery and much less time stressing over that perfect capture. And after all, isn\u2019t that what a holiday should be about?<\/p>\n
