{"id":67604,"date":"2015-08-13T06:15:53","date_gmt":"2015-08-12T22:15:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/?p=67604"},"modified":"2024-11-22T12:01:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T04:01:41","slug":"restaurant-review-lollapalooza-on-keong-saik-road-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/restaurant-review-lollapalooza-on-keong-saik-road-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"Restaurant review: Lollapalooza on Keong Saik Road, Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first thing you notice about <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/hot-new-tables-apr-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lollapalooza<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/keong-saik-revival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Keong Saik Road<\/a> \u2013 if you\u2019re familiar with local sister restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/directory\/lolla-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lolla<\/a> \u2013 is how different it is from its older sibling; the dining room is much bigger, brighter and more polished, with marble-topped tables, mint-green leather booths, brushed wooden chairs and copper pendant light fixtures.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In fact, there\u2019s nothing similar about the two <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/eat-drink\/restaurants\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">restaurants<\/a>. Lolla specialises in small plates with big Mediterranean-inspired flavours while Lollapalooza focuses on seasonal, uncomplicated sharing dishes on its ever-changing, freestyle menu. There are a handful of mainstays to return to Lollapalooza for, though chef Issac Lee (formerly of now-defunct Spanish restaurant Kaixo) finds innovative ways to integrate fresh, daily produce into the \u201csignatures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: The <em>ahh-mazing<\/em> housemade burrata, which came with stinging nettle pesto and pomegranate bits on one occasion, and served whole with yellow peaches and raw honeycomb on the next. If you\u2019re after something more \u201cexotic\u201d, try its roasted lamb hearts and corned veal tongue \u2013 although you may encounter them strewn with different sauces and sides each time.<\/p>\n<p>Having a seasonal menu means very little time for culinary experiments, but chef Issac manages to surprise even the most adventurous of foodies by using rarely seen ingredients (as you\u2019ve gathered from above) like veal sweetbreads, white asparagus, dog cockle and even a tuna eye. On paper, some of its dishes \u2013 which are primarily cooked with the wood-fired oven that burns applewood all day long \u2013 sounded a little too out there; on the plate (and in the mouth) they proved to be a harmonious combination of varying textures and natural flavours. Not too keen on these unusual dishes? Go for the fresh seafood; the lovely whole seabass we had during our last visit was moist, well cooked and utterly phenomenal.<\/p>\n<p>With a solid and exciting wine list of about 140 labels (of which 20 are available by-the-glass and 500ml carafe), it will be a sin not to order something to accompany your satisfying dinner.
