In a food-loving Singapore<\/a>, there\u2019s never a shortage of exciting dinners, festivals and parties<\/a> surrounding the culinary scene. But for foodies exploring Singapore\u2019s gastronomical offerings in April, you\u2019re in luck: two major food-centric events are set to take place \u2013 namely the World Street Food Congress<\/a> (April 8 to 12), and the World Gourmet Summit<\/a> (April 6 to May 3).<\/p>\n

Now in its second year, the World Street Food Congress (WSFC)<\/strong><\/a> pays homage to the wonderful world of street food, focusing on Singapore as well as other iconic foodie nations. Even celebrity chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain has graced the WSFC!<\/p>\n

Organised by Makansutra \u2013 one of Singapore\u2019s leading food guides \u2013 the idea behind WSFC is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving street food cultures, especially in a place like Singapore, where modern eateries and younger, \u201coffice-inclined\u201d generations are contributing to the gradual disappearance of the vibrant hawker scene. With the 2015 theme set as \u2018Empower, Engage and Opportunities\u2019,the five-day event will feature a smorgasbord of hawker stalls (and recipes), chef demonstrations, networking activities, and dialogue sessions led by key players in the F&B industry. The WSFC will be held in an open-area in Bugis (the grassland next to Tan Quee Lan Street).<\/p>\n

World Gourmet Summit<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The World Gourmet Summit (WGS)<\/strong><\/a> sits on the other end of the spectrum. This annual fine-dining celebration takes place across a number of Singapore\u2019s upscale restaurants and focuses on the cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me of the food world, from extravagant plates to highly prized wines.<\/p>\n

Guest appearances by celebrity chefs and Michelin-starred talents are part of the WGS traditions, and past year culinary heavyweights include British restaurateur Marco Pierre White and German chef Thomas B\u00fchner. Dinner collaborations between overseas and local chefs, cooking workshops and demonstrations, wine tasting sessions, table luncheons \u2013 expect all these and more during the prestigious event.<\/p>\n
