trails. They\u2019re much easier compared to the ones in the West as well! As you descend some sandy stairs, you\u2019ll be right smack in the middle of the otters\u2019 enclosure \u2013 you can\u2019t get any closer or more personal than that! As part of its Afro-Tropical and Madagascan-inspired environment, you&#8217;ll get to meet a multitude of creatures native to Africa and Madagascar.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight in this zone is the okapi, an endangered animal from the dense forests of the Congo in Central Africa. It&#8217;s best recognised by its brown coat and zebra-like legs, and has made its debut in Southeast Asia through the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the okapi after it stopped hiding!<\/p>\n<p>Other animals you can look out for include the African spurred tortoise, crested coua, and the African painted dog.<\/p>\n<p>My favourite part of animal spotting was stepping into the lemur enclosure. Because of how far they can jump, the lemurs have been placed in a special netted area. But in this way, you can get very close to them! You\u2019ll find the lemurs climbing trees, leaping along branches, and even right next to you on the bridge. During my visit, the lemurs weren\u2019t aggressive or tried to grab my stuff, so I felt comfortable being close to them.
