Since its creation in 2009, the competition has run for 17 years and has seen talents from over 100 countries. What does it take to be named the World Class Bartender of the Year? You&#8217;ve gotta be technique-driven, be able to elevate mixology, bartending, and cocktail culture.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s edition even saw the Diageo <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/diageo-world-class-cocktail-festival-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Class Cocktail Festival.<\/a> Members of the public were invited to sample competition drinks from each bar with a Cocktail Festival Passport, and they even voted for their favourite spots to have a say in the competition results. Photography: Ashe Liao<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The finals were split into two parts, starting with the Zacapa Elevation &amp; Celebration challenge. 11 bartenders were tasked with creating a cocktail featuring Diageo\u2019s Zacapa XO rum that captured the \u201cabove the clouds\u201d experience and the spirit of Latin celebration. Various cocktails were spotted, including ones that featured foam, \u201cclouds\u201d made from gelatin, and a hearty punch bowl-style drink.<\/p>\n<p>And from 11, came five finalists \u2013 Josiah Chee from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonfunk.com\/barbonfunk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bar Bon Funk<\/a>, Ellen Su from <a href=\"https:\/\/restaurantborn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Restaurant Born<\/a>, Ooi Foo Giap from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lastword.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Last Word<\/a>, and Zana M\u00f6hlmann and Alex \u201cHappy\u201d Gilmour from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hilton.com\/en\/hotels\/sinodci-conrad-singapore-orchard\/dining\/manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan<\/a>. The Showdown had contestants blindly picking six out of 15 classic cocktails, including drinks like a Negroni, El Diablo, gimlet, paloma, and margarita. Balancing execution, balance, and prep, contestants have to create each cocktail in under five minutes. It pushed me to sharpen every part of my craft, to think with greater precision under pressure, and to stay true to the warmth and hospitality that define a great guest experience.
