We\u2019re talking 1,000 free burgers over two days \u2013 all you\u2019ve gotta do is show up, get in line, and manifest those baddies straight into your hands. We swung by a few days before the official opening for a sneak peek. Smash Street\u2019s interior seemed eerily familiar: curved lines, wooden accents, fifty shades of off-white, and hardly any breathing room to properly enjoy the food.<\/p>\n<p>Is the tight space intentional? Yes. Just like its predecessor, this new spot is intended for walk-ins and takeaways only. The green awning out front is a nice pop of colour, like a friendly wave beckoning you closer. As you enter, pay attention to the floor \u2013 the embossed Smash Street sign lends a too-cool-for-school touch to the burger bar. Here, you\u2019re choosing between just two burgers, three sides, and two sweet treats. Decision fatigue is definitely not welcomed in this house!<\/p>\n<p>In true big back fashion, my colleague and I ordered the Classic ($14, two patties) with extra bacon ($3) and the House ($17, three patties) with jalapeno and onion relish ($2). And unsurprisingly, we were evenly split on our favourite. I\u2019m a growing boy\u2026) The patties are thin enough not to overwhelm, with those gloriously crispy edges giving way to a tender, juicy middle. My colleague begged to differ. \u201cThree patties are overkill,\u201d she stated. Well, we can agree to disagree. The jalapenos and onion relish add a slightly spicy kick, which I always appreciate.<\/p>\n<p>Both smash burgers feature soft potato buns, lending a little sweetness to each bite. Overall, they aren\u2019t too greasy or fattening. Photography: Samantha Lek<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Our order came with a side of twice-fried fries ($6) and chicken poppers with chilli crunch aioli ($10). The fries are reminiscent of Jagabee potato sticks: crunchy, savoury, and oh-so-sinful. This is a no-brainer classic that plays well with the burgers.<\/p>\n<p>While I thought the chilli crunch aioli was interesting \u2013 a combination of chilli oil and cold sauce \u2013 the chicken poppers suffered from too much paprika. Sadly, the team is still refining the cereal-y delish-sounding creations, and they\u2019ll only be available from opening day. Meanwhile, I had The Indigo Signal (butterfly pea-infused gin, yuzu liqueur, honey, and lemon, price TBC). We enjoyed the citrus-forward concoctions, with hints of floral notes coming through after every sip.<\/p>\n<p>Warning: the drinks are deceptively delicious, so you won\u2019t realise your head is swirling after you\u2019re done.
