Ever had one of those days when you need comfort food that doesn\u2019t come with a side of guilt? Well, Grain Traders<\/a> is for you. This brand is redefining quick service meals by serving fast yet good food \u2013 or what it calls \u201cfast good\u201d. On a rainy afternoon, we were craving wholesome comfort food, so we visited its newest outlet at Tanjong Pagar for a taste.<\/p>\n

The restaurant\u2019s concept is similar to many salad spots, where you can pick the toppings to design your meal. Feeling ravenous, brown rice was our pick for the base, before we moved on to the selection of toppings. When in doubt, we\u2019re fond of asking the staff for their favourites. Thanks to them, we sussed out delectable options like the salmon fillet, sweet potato and fennel, broccoli with sriracha, and mixed mushrooms with teriyaki sauce\u2026 and promptly added them to our plates.<\/p>\n

We ended up with more food than we planned for (oops), but each dish left us pleasantly surprised. Expect mellow, fresh flavours that let the ingredients shine through. At Grain Traders, food is prepared using techniques like sous-vide, baking, grilling, and fermenting to bring out the best flavours from its top-quality produce and proteins. Here, whole grains, fresh vegetables, beans and legumes, nuts, seeds and lean proteins take the spotlight. Wash it all down with a smoothie or juice for a tasty and nourishing meal.<\/p>\n

Portions are generous with each bowl starting from $17.50. We\u2019d say it’s worth the value if you’re one to place nutrition and quality ingredients at the forefront of your eating habits. Think of it as a healthier alternative to gourmet burgers or high sodium ramen bowls in the same price range.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t decide? Skip the DIY and choose from the menu. Bowls like Hen’s Nest comprise of sous-vide chicken breast and quinoa, topped with mixed mushrooms, green papaya salad, cucumber pickle, mixed seeds and basil vinaigrette. Down Under serves up steak parrillada with brown rice, roasted baby potato and grape, green papaya salad, bean sprout salad, sambal ljo and salsa verde. Meanwhile, Mawashi combines donburi salmon, soba noodles, roasted broccoli and cauliflower, sweet potato with fennel, pineapple kimchi, furikake and Asian gravy.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not all salads and no play at Grain Traders. We rounded off our nutritious meal with crumbly cookies and a decadent brownie which sated our sweet cravings. We hear the banana bread is pretty amazing too \u2013 that\u2019s next on our list of pastries to try!<\/p>\n
