As the team\u2019s certified \u201cwoo-woo wonderer\u201d (a made-up term, unfortch), I\u2019ve been through it all. Tarot reading<\/a>, numerology<\/a>, self-interpreting my astrological birth chart\u2026 yes, I\u2019ve put myself to the moon and back. So, what\u2019s next on my agenda? Aura reading, which is a dime a dozen in Singapore. I hit the jackpot with The AuraChakra Company<\/a> located at Siglap<\/a> Centre after a quick Google search. The team didn’t take long to get back to me, and after a quick back and forth, we settled on my appointment. Was I excited? Oh yes, with a capital E.<\/p>\n

Abracadabra, read my aura<\/h3>\n

You\u2019ve probably heard people saying they can \u201csense your aura\u201d. What if I told you there\u2019s some truth in that? Auras are unseen electromagnetic energies surrounding our physical bodies. \u201cThink of it as energy emission and attraction,\u201d The AuraChakra Company co-founder Selina Seah tells me. You know how some people intimidate you while others put you in a jolly mood? That\u2019s aura for you. Or vibes, as Gen Z likes to put it.<\/p>\n

I question whether our aura remains the same throughout our lives. Selina elucidates that they are \u201cnot a destination\u201d and that our auras are constantly evolving. She lets on that this is neither good nor bad. \u201cChange is the only constant,\u201d she sagely reminds me.<\/p>\n

Since the naked eye can\u2019t see auras, how do we find out their colours? While online quizzes claim they can determine your soul shade, those aren\u2019t entirely accurate. Companies in Singapore that offer aura reading use cameras to capture the hues and generate detailed reports on the findings. \u201cI don\u2019t need your birth date and time to figure you out. With just a click, I can know everything about you,\u201d Selina boldly proclaims. I nod, slightly impressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you ready to find out?\u201d The question rings in my head. I reply in the affirmative, even though I\u2019m getting more nervous. She tells me to put my index finger on the biosensor and look directly at the camera. A second later, my aura colours are projected on the screen. Yes, it\u2019s that fast!<\/p>\n

Orange is the new black<\/h3>\n

For some reason, I was anticipating my aura to be red as it\u2019s my favourite colour. Orange is not part of my bingo card. But Selina seems pleased with the outcome. According to her, the colour signifies artistic expression and creativity (\u201cThat\u2019s why you\u2019re a writer!\u201d), good energy, warmth, and an inviting personality.<\/p>\n

She notices the green shades on my right side and asks if I\u2019ve been doing something new for myself lately. I tell her I\u2019ve started taking magnesium supplements<\/a> to improve my sleep and regulate my emotions. She looks at me and smiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s good to know, dear. But I feel like this is something bigger than that,\u201d she prods. Well, there\u2019s the new podcast series<\/a> which we launched last month. Could that be it? I casually bring it up.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, that\u2019s what we\u2019re talking about, congratulations!\u201d she exclaims. \u201cDon\u2019t get me wrong: the supplements are great, but only you can feel the effects. But the podcast is bigger \u2013 more people know about it!\u201d I chuckle.<\/p>\n

Selina glances at the screen again. She says something that happened in my younger years (\u201cbetween eight and 12\u201d) still affects me. Two things immediately come to mind: being bullied throughout primary (and also secondary) school, and my maternal grandmother\u2019s death. I mention them to Selina, who empathises. \u201cEven though those things happened, you didn\u2019t let them stop you from being optimistic. You\u2019re still bright and shiny,\u201d she says, looking at me squarely in the eyes<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t hate the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chakra Khan and the seven<\/h3>\n

Aura reading experiences in Singapore also cover the seven chakras or energy centres: the base (or root), navel, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown. These points are tied to certain organs, are situated from the base of the spine to the top of your head, and are linked to the seven rainbow colours.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll your chakras are good, even though there are holes in some of them,\u201d Selina states. I ask if that\u2019s a bad thing. She shakes her head and clarifies that it\u2019s not a \u201cmajor concern\u201d. However, she brings attention to my navel chakra, which is a pale orange. While she doesn\u2019t offer much explanation about it, Selina advises going swimming to correct the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlternatively, you can stand under the shower, press your palms to your abdomen, breathe in, and chant \u2018vam\u2019,\u201d she suggests. It\u2019s a meditation technique that helps align the navel chakra.<\/p>\n

She also reminds me to have my lunch<\/a> on time, eliciting a huge laugh from me. \u201cYour mentality is \u2018I need to finish [my work] before I can take a break\u2019. That\u2019s not good, Sufyan, you need to nourish yourself. Don\u2019t be too fixated with work!\u201d she chastises me. I laugh again and nod, making a mental note of this. I won\u2019t deny that I tend to skip meals in favour of completing my articles.<\/p>\n

Two observations that surprised me the most involved my throat and crown chakras. According to Selina, I dare to speak my mind and feelings, and working on the podcast is another boon to my throat chakra. She also points out that my crown chakra is a \u201cnice, gorgeous shade of violet\u201d and believes I\u2019m spiritually protected. I\u2019m deeply fascinated by that statement.<\/p>\n

Our session was supposed to run for 30 minutes. When Selina\u2019s assistant came over to remind us of the time, I realised we\u2019d been talking for almost an hour. \u201cSee, I told you we\u2019ll be here for at least three hours!\u201d she quipped. That\u2019s our cue to wrap up our appointment.<\/p>\n

I point out the other results \u2013 the colour wheel and the various graphs \u2013 and question whether there\u2019s anything significant I should know. She assures me that I\u2019m doing all the right things, like picking a flattering hair colour<\/a> and knowing what works for me, style-wise.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, I know you\u2019ve had these bad past encounters, and because of that, you\u2019re constantly seeking validation,\u201d Selina broaches sensitively. \u201cThat\u2019s dragging you down; it\u2019s making you swim around with an elephant tied to you.\u201d She acknowledges that I\u2019m responsible, but she hopes I can get rid of my baggage and be the free person I should be. Those words jolt me back to reality.<\/p>\n

Throughout my journey home, I weigh the gravity of Selina\u2019s words. Even though I\u2019m not convinced by certain statements, such as my throat chakra revelation, I\u2019m very impressed with the session. Is it because she has two decades\u2019 worth of experience doing aura readings in Singapore? Or, could it be due to my third eye chakra, which opens me up to embracing different perspectives? Maybe I want to believe in all of it because I\u2019ve never felt so seen. That\u2019s basically it \u2013 I just want to be seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
