Gina Rodriguez stars as the newly single Nell Serrano who tries to rebuild her career and life after a long-term relationship. As only Nell can see and hear the ghosts, they give her advice on how to restart her life while sharing their life stories. They then vanish after their obituaries are published. Fans of Jane the Virgin, New Girl and Superstore are in for a treat as it also stars Hannah Simone and Lauren Ash.

2. The Bear<\/h3>\n

After a sudden death in the family, Carmen \u201cCarmy\u201d Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) has to leave his job at a fine dining restaurant to take over his family’s sandwich shop in Chicago. Carmy is thrown into the deep end as he deals with his brother\u2019s suicide and the debts he left behind. It doesn\u2019t help that the rundown restaurant has multiple sanitation issues, is on the verge of closing down, and the staff is unruly and shows no respect for Carmy. The drama-comedy is a slow burn but reels you in with its smart, haphazard editing sequences (to mirror the chaos in the kitchen) and Carmy\u2019s internal struggle with imposter syndrome.

3. Gannibal<\/h3>\n

\u200b\u200b<\/span>Just by looking at its title, we\u2019re pretty sure you get an inkling of what this Japanese horror series is about. After being posted to a remote village on a mountain, police officer Daigo Agawa (Yuya Yadira) discovers a horrifying truth. Yup, he soon finds out that he\u2019s living with a community of cannibals. Yikes!

4. Abbott Elementary<\/h3>\n

Buzzfeed alumni Quinta Brunson is the creator and star of this mockumentary sitcom about teaching in a poorly funded public school. The style is very much like The Office \u2013 many hilarious glances at the camera \u2013 but highlights the real-life struggles teachers experience in a US public school. We also like the refreshing friendship between two middle-aged colleagues, brilliantly played by Lisa Ann Walter and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Oh, and look out for Abbott Elementary\u2019s principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James). Her one-liners never fail to leave us in splits!

5. The Dropout<\/h3>\n

This gripping biographical drama follows the triumph and failure of Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried), the founder of healthcare startup Theranos. The show is closely based on the real-life events that led to the demise of the company, including the malfunctioning of machines, patients at risk, and the death of an employee. Seyfried perfectly encapsulates the mind of fraudster Holmes as we watch her deceive multiple investors and lie her way to the top.

6. Modern Family<\/h3>\n

You\u2019ve probably seen the reception that this show received but we\u2019re surprised that many have never watched The Modern Family. The American family sitcom follows the lives of three families. They are interrelated through Jay Pritchett (with his young wife and pre-teen son from her previous marriage) and his older children, Claire (who\u2019s married to Phil and have three children) and Mitchell (with his husband Cameron and an adopted daughter). The show follows a mockumentary-style concept and captures hilarious situations every family experiences. But it\u2019s not all laughs. Modern Family sometimes surprises us with heartwarming moments \u2013 from Jay being a father figure to his stepson Manny, to the chaotic siblings, Claire and Mitchell, sticking up for each other. No wonder it ran for over 10 seasons.

7. Tiong Bahru Social Club<\/h3>\n

Produced in Singapore, Tiong Bahru Social Club is a satirical black comedy film about a man who accidentally finds himself in a pilot project that uses data to build the happiest neighbourhood in Singapore. Ah Bee (Thomas Pang) becomes a happiness agent, lives in a communal home and is tasked to look after an elderly woman. Things seem fine as he lives in this experiment. But as with most artificial intelligence shows go, he realises that something has gone terribly wrong. Fans of the American flick The Truman Show will love this.

8. Big Bet<\/h3>\n

Cha Moosik (Choi Minsik), a Korean casino kingpin in the Philippines, is framed as a suspect in a murder. He returns to the gambling scene and has to make the ultimate bet on his life. On the other side, policeman Oh Seunghoon (Son Sukku) is tasked to catch Moosik. Who will win in this thrilling cat-and-mouse game? We\u2019ll have to wait and see.
