And it\u2019s not just because of <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/interesting-things-to-do-indoors-singapore\/\">Singapore\u2019s stormy weather<\/a>. Disney\u2019s Frozen the Musical has landed on our shores. It\u2019ll be staged at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands from now until 19 March 2023 \u2013 marking Singapore as its only Southeast Asian stop.<\/p>\n<p>Fair warning: As a fan of the original 2013 hit animated movie, this review may be a tad biased but I\u2019m not kidding when I say the musical is great for all theatre lovers and the young at heart.<\/p>\n<h3>Theatre review: Disney\u2019s Frozen The Musical<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_269417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-269417\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-269417 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/disneys-frozen-the-musical-singapore-4-900x643.png\" alt=\"disneys-frozen-the-musical-singapore\" width=\"900\" height=\"643\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/disneys-frozen-the-musical-singapore-4-900x643.png 900w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/disneys-frozen-the-musical-singapore-4-768x549.png 768w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/disneys-frozen-the-musical-singapore-4.png 1400w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/643;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-269417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photography: Lisa Tomasetti<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The tale of two sisters \u2013 Elsa, the Queen of Arendelle who struggles to contain her icy magic powers, and her spirited sister Anna, who saves the day when her sister accidentally sets eternal winter to their kingdom \u2013 comes to life through this adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>As with every Disney production (<a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/aladdin-musical-review-2019\/\">Aladdin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/the-lion-king-musical-in-singapore-the-king-returns-in-june-2018\/\">The Lion King<\/a>), these folks pull out the big guns with production design, sets and costumes. In fact, there are over 400 costumes on stage, with 120 custom-made pairs of shoes and 90 handmade hats. Elsa\u2019s dazzling dress takes 60 days to create and is adorned with 14,000 beads and Swarovski crystals. The musical began with the upbeat \u2018Vuelie\u2019 and quickly introduced us to the adorable young Elsa and Anna. Eight brilliant young talents collectively share the roles, some chosen from the nationwide audition that was held in September 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Do You Want to Build a Snowman?\u2019 sets the tone for the show. Sarah O\u2019Connor is brilliant as Anna. She puts her own spin on the spritely, sometimes clumsy, flirtatious, and outspoken sister. We loved how the song introduced each character, including Kristoff (an earnest rendition by Brendan Xavier), and his sidekick Sven. Mad props to Yvan Karlsson and Evan Strand, the actors who brought grace to the physically demanding role of the reindeer. But it\u2019s Jemma Rix that wears the pants (no really, she dons a kickass jumpsuit in the second act). It was tough to hate Thomas Mcguane, who plays \u2013 spoiler alert, the villain \u2013 Hans. The charismatic actor gave us major Prince Charming vibes and his chemistry with O\u2019Connor was sizzling. Keep a lookout for their cute dance battle where Anna takes her gown for a spin. Trivia: the custom ribbon embroidery on her gown is done by hand and took over 100 hours to create.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the character that fetched the most cheer was everyone\u2019s favourite snowman, Olaf. We were astonished by Matt Lee\u2019s multi-tasking skills as he brought the puppet to life while effortlessly belting out \u2018Summer\u2019. There\u2019s tap dancing involved, too! Don\u2019t shoot me but I might have enjoyed his version more than the original movie.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the first act ended with everyone\u2019s favourite \u2018Let It Go\u2019. Rix adds depth to the moving song. She sings \u2018conceal, don\u2019t feel\u2019 but damn, we felt every bit of it. We were practically at the edge of our seats as the set transformed into the dazzling North Mountain \u2013 it is filled with over 55,000 Swarovski crystals after all, oof. And don\u2019t blink as you might miss her magnificent dress change. Oaken, the shopkeeper of Wandering Oaken&#8217;s Trading Post and Sauna, as well as the trolls make an appearance.<\/p>\n<p>And did we mention the attention to detail? You\u2019ll notice Anna\u2019s wig slowly change to white after she\u2019s accidentally struck by her sister. Ice shards illuminate the stage whenever Elsa can\u2019t control her powers.
