Singapore is a city of many faces \u2013 there’s so much to love! Our modern architecture<\/a>, our clean and green streets, our colourful culture<\/a>, and our rich heritage<\/a>… we could go on. It\u2019s one of the best places to live in (at least according to us). Yes, there’ll always be things we can work on, but the island\u2019s charm is undeniable. That\u2019s why we picked the brains of our Honeycombers team and listed down all the things we love about Singapore to celebrate our nation’s 59th birthday in 2024. Read on for all the patriotic feels!<\/p>\n

We’re all hearts for Singapore!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

1. We love starting the day with our idea of the perfect spread of local breakfast<\/a> items. From kaya toast<\/a> and kopi<\/a> to nasi lemak and prata, we’re all spoilt for choice in the morning.<\/p>\n

2. Our vibrant night market experiences are beloved by locals for that dose of nostalgia. Otherwise known as “pasar malams<\/a>“, these markets are known for their bustling crowds, local snacks, and festive vibes.<\/p>\n

3. The array of unique things to do<\/a>, new attractions<\/a> and cool dining experiences<\/a> Singapore offers. We may be small but we’re mighty creative.<\/p>\n

4. We\u2019re a gorgeous green city with parks and gardens<\/a> everywhere. Conquer our beautiful hiking trails<\/a>, cycle<\/a> across the island on a two-wheeled adventure, and enjoy nature walks with a view<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5. Going loco for trains? We’ve got picturesque MRT stations<\/a> dotting the island – many with interesting stories behind them. Time to go on a journey around Singapore…<\/p>\n

6. Our merlions: did you know we actually have a total of six across the city? Time to go on a hunt for the half lion, half fish icon.<\/p>\n

7. Our powerful passport, that\u2019s for sure (we\u2019re #1 in 2024!).<\/p>\n

8. Neighbourhoods each with their own character and colour. Chinatown<\/a>, Little India<\/a>, Kampong Glam<\/a>, Tiong Bahru<\/a> and Joo Chiat<\/a>, just to name a few.<\/p>\n

9. Two words: durian<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

10. The festive mood never ends. From Chinese New Year<\/a> to Deepavali<\/a> to Hari Raya<\/a> to Christmas<\/a>, we celebrate it all. And we have a constant rotation of festivals such i Light Singapore<\/a>, Singapore Night Festival<\/a>, Baybeats, and buzzy events like the Singapore Grand Prix<\/a> and ZoukOut.<\/p>\n

11. Taxis and ride-hailing platforms are relatively affordable (compared to other countries). They\u2019re a great way to travel without spending a lot of time getting from one place to another. Plus, they\u2019re comfortable and cooling – they help us avoid the horrible humid weather<\/a>!<\/p>\n

12. The fact that you can still find secret spots<\/a> and hidden parks in such a tiny country.<\/p>\n

13. Spectacular performances on the stages of Esplanade, Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands, and Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

14. Street art<\/a> and wall murals decorate numerous corners of Singapore. And they\u2019re all free to admire!<\/p>\n

15. Our hawker food<\/a>: roti prata<\/a>, chicken rice<\/a>, laksa<\/a>, nasi lemak<\/a>\u2026 and the list goes on. Also, we appreciate the food delivery riders who work tirelessly, rain or shine.<\/p>\n

16. 365 days of summer weather, plus the occasional rain.<\/p>\n

17. Our amazing local fashion<\/a> and beauty<\/a> scene. Shoutout to all our lovely homegrown labels!<\/p>\n

18. The sunrises and sunsets<\/a> are some of the most beautiful in the world.<\/p>\n

19. The diversity of our people.<\/p>\n

20. The vibrant colours of our shophouses and HDBs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

21. The different types of playgrounds<\/a>! We\u2019ve got good, old fashioned playtime that\u2019s free and enjoyable for everyone, even the young at heart.<\/p>\n

22. It\u2019s a food paradise: Michelin-starred names, local creations and international cuisines from the city’s best restaurants<\/a> and cafes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

23. Amazing athletes who represent Singapore on the world stage and local legends<\/a> who make us proud.<\/p>\n

24. The short commutes that we take for granted \u2013 it doesn\u2019t take long to travel from one end of the country to the other!<\/p>\n

25. Everyone\u2019s your \u201cuncle\u201d or \u201cauntie\u201d. #family<\/p>\n

26. The lahs, lehs and lors of Singlish<\/a>!<\/p>\n

27. Shophouses \u2013 we have SO many beautiful streets<\/a> all over the city, and each has a heritage story to tell.<\/p>\n

28. The people who labour behind the scenes to keep Singapore strong: healthcare staff, teachers, construction workers, cleaners, and so on.<\/p>\n

29. Midnight shenanigans. Supper spots<\/a>, late-night shopping, mingling with the animals at the Night Safari, karaoke<\/a> sessions, bar-hopping, partying till dawn at the hottest nightclubs<\/a>\u2026 and getting home safely.<\/p>\n

30. (Mostly) clean public toilets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

31. The juxtaposition of old and new: heritage shophouses next to towering skyscrapers, and traditional bakeries<\/a> sitting alongside modern restaurants.<\/p>\n

32. Bubble tea<\/a> shops on every corner. \u2018Nuff said.<\/p>\n

33. The fact that temples<\/a>, churches<\/a> and mosques<\/a> can co-exist harmoniously.<\/p>\n

36. It\u2019s so easy to get anything you want \u2013 from food to groceries to furniture. Everything can be found online and delivered<\/a> to you.<\/p>\n

37. It\u2019s clean and safe. (Yes, we know, low crime does not equal no crime. But still, how often do people get robbed or held at gunpoint here?)<\/p>\n

38. So many opportunities to volunteer<\/a> and lend a hand to those in need.<\/p>\n

39. Best public transport<\/a> system compared to countless other countries \u2013 it\u2019s quick, easy and accessible!<\/p>\n

40. The growing voices advocating for racial equality, the LGBTQ+ community<\/a>, taking care of our mental health<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

41. Our public libraries<\/a> \u2013 they\u2019re cooler than you think.<\/p>\n

42. Our \u201ckampong\u201d village. How easy is it to randomly bump into someone you know on the street? Or figure out you have the same schoolmate as your work buddy\u2019s wife\u2019s cousin?<\/p>\n

43. We may be an urban city, but we still have a plethora of farms in Singapore<\/a> that give us organic veggies and fresh milk.<\/p>\n

44. Let\u2019s not forget about Changi Airport, one of the world\u2019s best, home to Jewel Changi Airport<\/a>. (And Singapore Airlines, one of the top across the globe).<\/p>\n

47. Water that\u2019s actually clean and drinkable from the tap.<\/p>\n

48. All the free things<\/a> that we get to enjoy as Singapore residents.<\/p>\n

49. Singapore Botanic Gardens<\/a>, our Unesco World Heritage pride and joy. Gardens by the Bay, we’re lookin’ at you, too!<\/p>\n

50. We can easily fake a tropical vacay at beach clubs<\/a> and offshore islands<\/a> like Pulau Ubin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

51. The sleek shopping malls<\/a> that hold almost everything and anything you need. We love how big-name international brands sit next to local labels \u2013 give it up for homegrown shops like Love, Bonito, Beyond The Vines, Bynd Artisan, In Good Company, Carrie K. and more.<\/p>\n

52. Our stable and safe currency.<\/p>\n

53. The art and culture in our museums and galleries<\/a>, and how they\u2019re free to enter for locals.<\/p>\n

54. Our multicultural diversity is what makes us vibrant.<\/p>\n
