Whether you have a top ten list of your fave photographers, or you\u2019re new to the photography world, the Singapore International Photography Festival<\/a> has something in store for you. Here are some of the highlights!<\/p>\n

Discover photography exhibitions through a new lens<\/h3>\n

Set to the theme of Departing and Arriving, the festival takes a look at our sense of belonging and identity, exploring our past history and belief systems to understand who we are. Swing by the titular physical exhibition at multiple locations including Deck, Emerald Hill, Artscience Museum and more. This group exhibition takes a reflective look at the human condition, and it\u2019s especially relevant with the many changes that have happened since the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Among the many other photography exhibits you can find at 37 Emerald Hill<\/strong> (until 30 Jan 2021; $15\/single entry, $20\/multiple entry pass), \u2018Memory Block\u2019 by Bob Lee is bound to catch your attention. Consisting of a body of images taken over decades, this becomes a time capsule of sorts, capturing the changing tastes and interests of Singaporeans over time. For the most informative experience, opt for the Curator Tour, we say. Let the experts bring you around Deck and Emerald Hill to appreciate the meaning and history behind the artworks \u2013 you can count on them to give you the full lowdown!<\/p>\n

Feeling nostalgic? Check out Margins: drawing pictures of home<\/a><\/strong> at ArtScience Museum (until 28 Feb 2021) to admire creations inspired by sights of the island. Photographers like Aik Beng Chia, Alecia Neo, Nguan and Zakaria Zainal display their works in an exploration of everything from familiar landscapes to our migrant histories.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re curious about exploring the city\u2019s cultural precincts from a different point of view without leaving your home, you\u2019ll want to experience this. Join Aik Beng Chia, Lavender Chang, Robert Zhao, Kevin WY Lee and Mindy Tan for a virtual tour. This journey will take you through the bustling streets of Little India, navigating around the charming neighbourhood of Joo Chiat and even into a secondary forest next to housing estates. Walking with Photographers<\/a><\/strong> ($5 per screening) offers a 360-degree video stream of local photographers taking you around a place they\u2019re familiar with. You\u2019ll see these districts in a different light after this, guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Keep an eye out for the art<\/h3>\n

You might spot artworks on your daily commute, too. In six MRT stations along the Downtown Line, 30 artists have created works for the Singapore International Photography Festival\u2019s Open Call Showcase<\/a><\/strong> (until 19 Dec 2020). And we love how these add a dose of intrigue to our usual stroll across train platforms! Wanna spot some art? Find them at Downtown Line stations along Little India, Beauty World, Rochor, Bukit Panjang, Promenade and Bugis. Best of all, this exhibition is entirely free!<\/p>\n

Where\u2019s the photo booth?<\/h3>\n

Keep your eyes peeled for a travelling photo booth moving around Singapore! Made from a refurbished shipping container, this is the Inside Out Project: Singapore<\/a><\/strong> by internationally renowned artist JR from France. It will produce public portraits of Singaporeans to be pasted on the walls and pavements for all to admire. This global project seeks to turn personal messages of identity into art that everyone can enjoy. Look forward to seeing 1,000 portraits and stories of people in Singapore in a display that shows off our country\u2019s collective identity.
