Prata and dim sum. First off, <strong>Rahmath Cheese Prata<\/strong> (#01-08) cooks up the most fluffy and crispy <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/best-prata-in-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prata<\/a>. Think Newton Food Centre but way less touristy, more compact and \u2013 dare we say \u2013 more authentic in taste. Residents often bring their pets and there\u2019s also a playground nearby to keep the little ones occupied.<\/p>\n<p>For a sweet (but not overwhelmingly so) treat, try the tau suan, a mung bean dessert. We recommend the stall at #01-23. They\u2019re generous with the beans here, which means each spoonful promises a good bite \u2013 you won\u2019t just get a handful of beans swimming in disproportionate amounts of thick sugary syrup.<br \/>\n<em>Toa Payoh Lorong 5 Food Centre, Blk 75 Toa Payoh Lorong 5, Singapore 310075<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>9. Gourmet Paradise<\/h3>\n<p>A food court in the basement of a bus interchange doesn\u2019t seem like the most obvious place to hunt for authentic local bites, but this one proved us wrong. Start with the rojak, a fruit salad of sorts that\u2019s said to be the best reflection of Singapore\u2019s multi-cultural demographic in a dish. But don\u2019t expect this to be your typical salad because you won\u2019t be counting calories here \u2013 <strong>Soon Heng Rojak<\/strong>\u2019s (#B1-01) plentiful servings of thick sweet sauce, you tiao (fried dough fritters), prawn paste and peanut bits make sure of it. P.S. Don\u2019t confuse this with Toa Payoh Rojak which, unlike its name, is a hawker stall at Old Airport Road Food Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Next up, we\u2019re spotlighting a sweet, sticky dessert from <strong>Hougang 6 Miles Famous Muah Chee<\/strong> (yes, this stall is at Toa Payoh and not <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/neighbourhood-guide-hougang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hougang<\/a>!). These are chewy blobs of glutinous rice cakes (kind of like mochi) coated with either peanut or black sesame powder. Sink your teeth into this stall&#8217;s muah chee, which is delightfully soft and not overly sweet (the powder doesn\u2019t contain as much sugar).<br \/>\n<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.koufu.com.sg\/our-brands\/food-halls\/gourmet-paradise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gourmet Paradise<\/a>, HDB Hub, Blk 480 Toa Payoh Lorong 6, Singapore 310480<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>10. The Larder Cafe<\/h3>\n<p>With an industrial chic decor and an extensive menu of Western grub, The Larder Cafe is a pretty good food spot if you\u2019re working in Toa Payoh \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/singapore\/affordable-executive-set-lunch-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive set lunch<\/a> comes with a main, a soup and a drink.
