Seeking a fun, relaxing day that celebrated their love, Singapore-based couple Julie and Toby’s Bali\u00a0wedding was a tight-knit affair by Semara Uluwatu<\/a>‘s\u00a0poolside garden, which is perched on a breathtaking cliff that overlooks the azure-blue sea below. As the shopaholic co-founder of ShopVenture<\/a>, Julie’s keen eye for style showed in the elegant grey-and-white palette and the stunning silver\u00a0embellishment\u00a0on her alluring, beach-worthy gown.<\/p>\n

\"Wedding<\/p>\n

How they met:<\/strong>
\nWe met at a friend’s birthday party while I was living in Hong Kong and he was living in Singapore. He won me over pretty quickly, and I moved to Singapore with my little frenchie, Minca. He proposed early one morning, in our home, by tying the ring box to Minca’s collar and sending her into the bed to wake me up. It was the best alarm clock I’ve ever had!<\/em><\/p>\n

The bride’s outfit:<\/strong>
\nI was looking for something beach-y and comfortable, but also a bit unique. I fell in love with Amanda Wakeley<\/a>‘s Cleopatra dress and tracked it down at Kleinfeld<\/a>\u00a0while I was in New York City. I love Charlotte Olympia<\/a>, and her silver Ursula heels matched the dress perfectly. Toby surprised me with a pair of stunning diamond earrings on the morning of the wedding, which completed the look.<\/em><\/p>\n

Her hair and make-up:<\/strong>
\nI wanted something sun-kissed and natural for my makeup, and loose curls for my hair. Ranny was amazing and made me feel glamorous, yet still like myself.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Bride<\/p>\n

The groom’s outfit:<\/strong>
\nToby wore a bespoke blue suit from Kevin Seah<\/a>, whose shop is near our apartment in Boat Quay. It’s a beautiful showroom and they offer customers whiskey or champagne during fittings \u2013 so, of course, I made it to every single one.<\/em><\/p>\n

The wedding party’s style:<\/strong>
\nThe bridesmaids wore perfectly flowy, cool chiffon dresses by Joanna August<\/a> in light grey. Comfort and the ability to dance were key factors! The boys had suits made in the same fabric as Toby’s. They all cleaned up very nicely. Our flower girls wore simple white linen dresses from Jacadi Paris<\/a> with little floral crowns and bare feet, and they were absolutely adorable.<\/em><\/p>\n

The venue:<\/strong>
\nI’m from the US and Toby is from the UK, so any location was going to be a destination. We chose Bali because we’d both been visiting for years, and love the culture and beauty of the island. We saw a few villas but chose Semara<\/a> because each villa has a distinct look and feel. We had friends and family staying in all the villas, and it was amazing\u00a0to have the ability to walk from one to the next to\u00a0hang out with everyone for a few days before and after the wedding.<\/em><\/p>\n

The decor:<\/strong>
\nBali’s backdrop is so vibrant and colourful, that we didn’t want anything to bold or busy. Our decor incorporated greys and whites into the bright green and blue hues of the natural surroundings.<\/em><\/p>\n

The ceremony:<\/strong>
\nOur friend Bree, who introduced us, did a beautiful reading by Louis de Berni\u00e8res from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. The beginning reads, “Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanos and then subsides”, which was incredibly fitting as the wedding almost didn’t happen due to an erupting volcano in Java earlier that week!<\/em><\/p>\n

The food and drinks:<\/strong>
\nI love food, so the menu was really important to me. Each item meant something either to me and Toby, or our backgrounds: lobster roll sliders for my Boston roots; fish and chips for his British heritage; and buffalo chicken wings because I introduced Toby to buffalo sauce, his current obsession. The Semara even made sure we had a bottle of buffalo sauce on the head table just in case. We had a taco station, a pulled pork station and a grilled lobster station for our main courses \u2013 an eclectic mix of our favourite meals. For dessert, we had mini key lime pies, churros with a chocolate fountain, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, because who doesn’t like Ben & Jerry’s! Oh, and the crowd favourite was an espresso martini bar instead of coffee and tea… much more effective in getting the dance party started.<\/em><\/p>\n

The entertainment:<\/strong>
\nWe wanted a fun and relaxed playlist for the wedding. We played “Going To The Chapel Of Love”<\/a> while the bridesmaids walked down the aisle, which got everyone swaying in their seats. I\u00a0walked down the aisle to the theme song from About Time<\/a>, which is a moving instrumental piece. The rest of the night was all about dancing. I don’t think we stopped from start to finish!<\/em><\/p>\n

The photography:<\/strong>
\nI love Terralogical<\/a>‘s photographic style and Bonjo was amazing. We didn’t want too many staged shots, so they took a few of the wedding party and the whole group, and then tons of candid shots, which really captured some amazing moments.<\/em><\/p>\n

Memorable moments:<\/strong>
\nWe had our first dance surrounded by sparklers, which was beautiful and felt a bit like a dream. I also had a dance with my dad to “Daddy’s Little Girl”<\/a>, the same song my mom danced to with her dad on their wedding day, so it was a really special moment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Julie’s wedding advice for brides-to-be:<\/strong>
\n1. Be decisive \u2013 go with what you really want and remember it’s your day.<\/em>
\n2. Get some one-on-one time with your new husband. Sneak away for a few minutes throughout the day to stand back and reflect on how much fun you’re having.<\/em>
\n3. Splurge for the video. Photos are stunning, but nothing captures the moment like a video, and you get to feel like the star in your own movie!<\/em><\/p>\n
