Here\u2019s a little lesson in adulting for all of us on what you can put in the washing machine and dryer, and what you should never tempt fate by throwing in with your laundry. Take note, folks\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t roll your eyes, it has to be said \u2013 before you do anything, read the care label! Spoiler alert: it tells you what to do. Besides, you might not even be aware that you\u2019re wearing acrylic or new wool and might need to treat that new piece particularly gently. But, don\u2019t buy into all the common \u2018rules\u2019 for washing your clothes either. If you\u2019ve done your research, you\u2019ll know there\u2019s some amazing tech behind the washing machines and dryers by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch-home.com.sg\/?cid=bo_sg_br_HC_19:coop%20:0319:fix:oth:::text::\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bosch<\/a> that will be a total game-changer. Photography: Dan Gold.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>CAN:<\/h2>\n<h3>Silks and wool<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the \u2018hand wash only label\u2019 on silks and wool, sometimes you should be a rule breaker, especially if you\u2019ve got a next-level washing machine. Bosch has developed some serious tech: its VarioDrum breakthrough wave-droplet design provides a thorough yet gentle clean for fine textiles. It\u2019s designed to provide outstanding washing results thanks to the droplet-shaped structure and the size of the paddles, which ensures faster and more even water distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Dealing with stains? Fret not: Bosch\u2019s AntiStain program reliably removes some of the most common stains including butter, wine and grass. No need to worry about that accidental wine spill on a night out! We\u2019ve got our eye on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch-home.com.sg\/shop-productlist\/washers-dryers\/washing-machines\/front-loading-washing-machines\/WAX32M40SG#\/Tabs=section-highlights\/\">WAX32M40SG<\/a> model, FYI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But can you put it in the dryer?<\/strong><br \/>\nUse the wool finish and delicate\/silk programme on your Bosch dryer. Machine-washable woollens come out fluffier using this feature \u2013 after the programme has ended, they should be allowed to air-dry completely. For pieces that are strictly hand-wash only, lay your delicates flat to air-dry to help them keep their shape.<\/p>\n<h3>Tote bags and gym bags<\/h3>\n<p>If it\u2019s made of canvas, cloth or nylon, go ahead and throw it in the washing machine!<\/p>\n<p><strong>But can you put it in the dryer?<\/strong><br \/>\nHang these to dry, we say.<\/p>\n<h3>Duvets and bedspreads<\/h3>\n<p>Yes! And if anyone in the fam has sensitive skin or dust allergies, you\u2019ll want the AllergyPlus wash programme Bosch offers, which reduces your exposure to allergens by prolonging the maximum wash temperature and adding an extra rinse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But can you put it in the dryer?<\/strong><br \/>\nThese do take longer to completely dry, but check out Bosch\u2019s range of dryers: they\u2019re next-level energy-efficient (50% less energy is used per load than regular counterparts, with a speedy drying time). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch-home.com.sg\/shop-productlist\/washers-dryers\/tumble-dryers\/heat-pump-dryers\/WTX87MH0SG\">The WTX87MH0SG Home Connect model<\/a> for example can use the Smart Dry function, which automatically selects the best drying program based on the last washing cycle. And did we mention Bosch Heat Pump dryers don\u2019t need an air vent, so you can install yours in a cupboard or somewhere discreet?<\/p>\n<h3>Stuffed toys<\/h3>\n<p>Yes! Place them in a pillowcase if they have glass or plastic eyes to prevent scratching. Here\u2019s where Bosch\u2019s washing machine comes in handy again: you can clean your kiddo\u2019s soft toys in record time with the SpeedPerfect function, which reduces washing time by up to 65% without compromising results. Get those toys squeaky clean before the little ones notice that they\u2019re gone! If you\u2019re a parent, you\u2019ll know just how grubby those beloved softies can get.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But can you put them in the dryer?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes! And needless to say, these items should be air-dried.<\/p>\n<h3>Leather and suede<\/h3>\n<p>Leather and suede are prone to water marks. Resist the urge no matter how high that dry-cleaning bill is. Dry-clean leather items and use a suede brush.<\/p>\n<h3>Anything embellished<\/h3>\n<p>If your fave pieces feature sequins, beadwork or delicate embroidery, then gentle handwash or steaming is the way to go.<\/p>\n<h3>Curtains<\/h3>\n<p>Take it from this writer, who once shrank her landlord\u2019s curtains by throwing them in the washer and dryer: it\u2019s best to steam clean or use a professional service for your curtains. You don\u2019t want to hang your curtains up after what you thought was a triumphant money-saving DIY job in the dryer only to discover the curtains no longer reach the floor.<\/p>\n<p>See? No laundry disasters from here on in.
