Always on the lookout for fun things to do in Singapore? Well, if the weekend of 20 and 21 April 2018 is looking clear for you, round up your squad and check out the Armenian Street Party! Inspired by the Lion City and its colourful past, the whole shebang (aptly dubbed <\/span>Balik Kampong 2.0. \u2013 Same Same, But Different<\/b><\/a>) is\u00a0one of\u00a0the official closing events for Singapore Heritage Festival 2018 and is set to take place along \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 Armenian Street. <\/span><\/p>\n

You and the gang are invited to come dressed in reinterpreted outfits of yesteryear, so find yourselves some batik prints, sleek cheongsams, and intricate sarees. That way, you\u2019ll all certainly be dressed for the occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep it old-school: \u2018Don\u2019t Play Play\u2019 has fun games like pick-up sticks and hopscotch for you to try (again).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Oldies but goodies<\/b>
\nThe two-day shindig has a bunch of highlights for you to look forward to, including musical performances by power-packed quartet act The Pinholes<\/strong>, who’ll be covering hits from the 60s, and Don\u2019t Play Play<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a section featuring old-school games like pick-up sticks (this one’s giant sized!), Jenga, and hopscotch. There will also be a massive pasar malam<\/em> with stalls selling classic favourites like chendol drink and pang susie<\/em> \u2013 buns with spiced pork filling. Shopaholics might want to keep an eye out for pop-ups by local businesses like Books Actually<\/strong>, Supermama<\/strong>, and Love SG<\/strong>, which are both famed for their Singapore-inspired souvenirs that reflect the nation\u2019s rich history. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Artsy types, don’t miss\u00a0Jamban 1956<\/strong>. Presented by The Substation, this thought-provoking installation aims to shine the spotlight on Singapore’s ever-changing landscape. The focus of this interactive exhibition? A reconstruction of a make-shift wooden kampong toilet that was previously commissioned by the Asian Film Archive. Even better, it\u2019s also an interactive exhibition that invites visitors to express their thoughts by drawing inside the cubicle. Go figure!<\/span><\/p>\n

Pop by the Peranakan Museum<\/b>
\nThe Armenian Street Party coincides with the Peranakan Museum\u2019s 10th anniversary, so make sure you swing by the venue for more cool stuff, like OH! Corak Corak<\/strong>. This multi-sensory (and highly Instagrammable) art experience lets you explore a walk-in kaleidoscope and spot fascinating finds from the museum’s collection. If you\u2019re a hardcore foodie, the Eurasian Association’s Jiak Simi?<\/strong> one-night-only segment on 20 April is perfect for you if you’ve always wondered about the similarities and differences between Eurasian cuisine and Peranakan fare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fancy a quick jaunt around the area? Head to the side of the museum and hop onto a vintage Vespa sidecar<\/a> for a bespoke tour around the vibrant BrasBasah.Bugis ‘hood.
