5 years ago, the New York Times<\/a> showed us how sweet caramel developed a taste for salt \u2013 a combination that long enthralled French and American chefs had wormed its way to the mass market, even all the way to our little red dot. We\u2019re happy (because we love it!) to announce that the salted caramel trend is still going strong in Singapore \u2013 so here\u2019s where to get your salted caramel fix. Don\u2019t bother counting the calories, Nigella Lawson<\/a> and Barack Obama<\/a> approve.<\/p>\n

Ice Cream
\n<\/strong>You know how popular a flavor is when (at the height of the trend) an ice creamery named Salted Caramel<\/a>\u00a0– which dishes out pretty good waffles<\/a> too – popped up along Upper Thomson Road! Try 320 Below Nitro Cream Caf\u00e9<\/a> for made-to-order (with liquid nitrogen) Salted Caramel ice cream with a surprisingly smooth texture. Not in the area? Check out similar flavours at Merely Ice Cream<\/a> (Salted Butterscotch) and Creamier<\/a> (Sea Salt Gula Melaka).<\/p>\n

Cupcakes<\/strong>
\nIf there\u2019s something we love more than salted caramel, its salted caramel frosting. We\u2019ve already raved about the cupcakes we love<\/a>, but try our favourite flavour at these bakeries \u2013 Baked by Lace<\/a>, Plain Vanilla<\/a>, and Twelve Cupcakes<\/a> (we know, but their moist and fluffy treats are definitely more than satisfactory).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Cake
\n<\/strong>No matter what they say, cupcakes and cakes are different (we just keep telling ourselves that). Have the Coulant Caramel au Beurre Sal\u00e9 (or salty butter caramel lava cake) at L\u2019Entrec\u00f4te<\/a>. If you\u2019d like to toss cheese into the mix, check out Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake at The Marmalade Pantry<\/a> or Obolo<\/a>. For rich, tall cakes, the Salted Caramel cake at The Fabulous Baker Boy<\/a> is drool-worthy.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>L<\/em>:\u00a0Patisserie G\u00a0and Canel\u00e9 P\u00e2tisserie, R:\u00a0Ladur\u00e9e<\/em><\/p>\n

Macarons
\n<\/strong>Obviously you can\u2019t go wrong with the salted caramel (or any flavour actually) at Ladur\u00e9e<\/a>. Canel\u00e9 P\u00e2tisserie gets points for giving the flavour such a pretty name, Fleur de Sel (Flower of Salt), and it tastes as good as it sounds. But if you\u2019re in the vicinity of Millennia Walk, try the salted caramel macarons at Patisserie G<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cocktails
\n<\/strong>Honey fave Tippling Club<\/a> has not one, but two cocktails with salted caramel in the shaker. You have the choice of Clutching Hand (American whiskey, fernet branca, salt caramel, and lemon) or Low Profile Fashion Choices (Tennessee whiskey, salt caramel, chocolate, and earl grey). This is off the menu, but the mixologists at Jekyll and Hyde<\/a> concocted something (salted caramel, rum, and vanilla ice cream) when we requested for it. Sound good? Tell them the Honeycombers sent you!<\/p>\n

Salted Caramel in Your Kitchen
\n<\/strong>We wouldn\u2019t leave you without telling you how to make your own Salted Caramel Sauce<\/a> or without introducing you to our personal fave, Nutella and Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Fudge<\/a> (YUM). For some, ahem, adult food groups, try making Salted Caramel Vodka Hot Chocolate<\/a> or Salted Caramel Jello Shots<\/a>.<\/p>\n
