Filling your calendars with massive music festivals<\/a>, gigs and concerts<\/a>, and keeping the nights alive with raves, parties and more booze<\/a> is one long bash we don\u2019t want to end. But to keep you in the know with who\u2019s who in the local music scene \u2013 both household names and the fresh talents who are making waves both here and abroad \u2013 we\u2019ve rounded up 10 local bands, singer-songwriters, producers, and artists to you need to hear about.<\/p>\n

Astreal<\/h3>\n

No one could ignore the glorious comeback of homegrown shoegazers, Astreal<\/a>, at Laneway Festival when the\u00a0band surprised concert-goers with songs from its long-awaited album \u2014 and boy, did it sound\u00a0monumental. Known for explosive live performances, as well as being one of Singapore’s first indie bands to be fronted by a female vocalist, Ginette Chittick, (pictured above) this veteran outfit\u2019s signature discordant-yet-pleasing-to-the-ear sound is one to keep an ear out, because newsflash: Astreal is here to stay. For more Astreal buzz, we sat down and chat with bassist and frontwoman Ginette Chittick<\/a> about motherhood and fashion.<\/p>\n

Ffion<\/h3>\n

With confidence carved from exposure through YouTube, this singer-songwriter has come into her own as a starlet who\u2019s blazing the R&B scene. Take a few seconds to listen to Ffion<\/a>\u2019s enrapturing vocals, and you\u2019ll instantly comprehend the comparisons with Banks. What we really want is to see this songbird break into the dance scene \u2013 her upbeat collaboration with Jeff Hue on the Diplo-esque \u201cOver\u201d is pure fireworks if you ask us.<\/p>\n

Gentle Bones<\/h3>\n

Master of catchy lullabies (with a touch of dance from his latest single); soulful crooner; the man with velvet vocals; much has been said to describe Gentle Bones<\/a> (aka Joel Tan). But strip away all those titles, and what you get is arguably one of Singapore\u2019s most popular singer-songwriters with an uncanny ability to make fans \u2013 and we don\u2019t just mean of the female variety \u2013 swoon at his feet. One for fans of Ed Sheeran and James Arthur and Gavin James.<\/p>\n

Formerly a lukewarm singer-songwriter, Sam Rui<\/a> has evolved into one steamy upstart who\u2019s been turning up the heat in the scene. Her gooey, mawkish vocals have prompted comparisons with the likes of UK\u2019s R&B maverick, NAO, with whom she shared a lineup at this year\u2019s St. Jerome\u2019s Laneway Festival. This young crooner is definitely going places.<\/p>\n

A lot of what people love about Take Two \u2013 breezy and uncomplicated pop tunes, catchy enough for you to want to sing along \u2013 is present in M1LDL1FE (the band rebranded themselves after the departure of guitarist Johnathan Lim). From what we\u2019ve heard so far on the recently released track, \u201cDistraction\u201d, this band is a little bit more polished, colourful and catchy guitar arrangements.<\/p>\n
