If you don\u2019t like roughing it out in sweaty coffeeshops or the thought of ordering in Chinese terrifies you, you\u2019ve probably yet to try the Chinese cuisine<\/a> known as zi char<\/a> <\/em>\u2013 think home-cooked sharing plates for families or groups<\/a>. But what if I told you there was a slicker, stylish destination where you can tuck into zi char <\/em>fare, sans the grubby setting and angry auntie who shouts at everyone?<\/p>\n

VLV Riverside has launched<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We\u2019ve said much about VLV Singapore, a multi-concept Chinese restaurant in Clarke Quay<\/a> that also hosts regular live music gigs<\/a>. But recently unveiled is VLV Riverside, an 80-seat, alfresco restaurant that aims to elevate the zi char <\/em>dining experience.<\/p>\n

Helmed by Executive Chef Martin Foo, the menu here is reminiscent of what you\u2019d expect from a zi char <\/em>restaurant. Aside from Singapore food staple, chilli crab, you can also find VLV\u2019s Chairman\u2019s Crab, with a sauce that you\u2019ll want to soak your man tous (deep-fried buns) in. Other group-friendly highlights include the crispy bull frog with ginger, stir-fried sambal prawn with petai<\/em>, crispy har cheong gai <\/em>(shrimp paste chicken), and the curry fish head that goes perfectly with rice.<\/p>\n
