I was totally glued to my seat with this sizzling, sexy and clever performance that had me laughing out loud.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-125941 alignnone lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/d22ir9aoo7cbf6.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/191-13-chicagotour.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"930\" height=\"550\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/191-13-chicagotour.jpg 930w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/191-13-chicagotour.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/191-13-chicagotour.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 930px) 100vw, 930px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 930px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 930\/550;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chicago is the story about nightclub singer, Roxie Hart, who shoots her lover and ends up joining the sassy and lingerie-clad group of murderesses in the Chicago jail. Here, she has to avoid death row and enlists dodgy lawyer, Billy Flynn, for help, while also finding a partner-in-crime in\u00a0fellow inmate, Velma Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>Based on real-life events back in the roaring \u201920s, it\u2019s upbeat, smart and incredibly relevant now as it was when it was written in 1975. It deals with murder, media and manipulation \u2013 there was even a cheeky reference to Trump in last night\u2019s performance (I suppose\u2026 how could you <em>not<\/em> go there?).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-125943 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/d22ir9aoo7cbf6.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/Chicago-collage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"930\" height=\"550\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/Chicago-collage.jpg 930w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/Chicago-collage.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/02\/Chicago-collage.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 930px) 100vw, 930px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 930px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 930\/550;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were so many standout performances when I caught it last night. But particularly, I loved Velma\u2019s solo, when\u00a0she tries to lure Roxie into forming a duet performance act \u2013 it was just so clever, funny and choreographed to a tee. Another favourite was Amos Hart\u2019s solo \u2013 \u201cMr Cellophane\u201d \u2013 which articulates his feelings of being absolutely invisible to his wife, Roxie, and everyone else around him. The lyrics and the performances were just so on point. And finally, Mary Sunshine, who really stole the show \u2013 as a reporter who has a soft spot for Billy, she had a little surprise in store for the audience (I don\u2019t want to give too much away!).<\/p>\n<p>Chicago was totally fun, fabulous and absolutely riveting. With lots of flesh on display, this racy, dark and hilarious performance had all musical \u2013 and non-musical \u2013 lovers bopping and tapping along to their ingenious scores, and chuckling along to their witty one-liners peppered throughout the show.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chicago is on now until 26 February at the Sands Theatre.
