It’s not often you’d associate Star Wars with fashion\u00a0\u2013 unless, of course, you’re\u00a0talking about Princess Leia’s racy slave\u00a0costume in Return of the Jedi<\/em> (1983). So who would’ve thought that Jedis, Sith Lords, and droids from a galaxy far, far away would become a\u00a0source of inspiration\u00a0for local designer Sabrina Goh?\u00a0Fresh off\u00a0her recent Minnie Rocks The Dots<\/a> collection, she\u00a0teams up with\u00a0Disney for yet another collection that’s pretty (ahem) stellar<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Exploring the theme of good\u00a0vs. evil, “Equilibrium” is an exclusive 10-piece womenswear collection that melds\u00a0Sabrina’s signature minimalist aesthetic with the Star Wars universe: think a dramatic cape dress inspired by\u00a0Darth Vader himself,\u00a0asymmetrical tees, crop tops, and matching culottes in galaxy prints. Whether you stand on the Light or the Dark Side, it’s safe to say that this is a collection even fanboys themselves would approve of.<\/p>\n

With the release of the highly-anticipated\u00a0Rogue One: A Star Wars Story <\/em>almost upon us,\u00a0Sabrina talks nerdy to\u00a0us and even gives us a sneak peek at the collection.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your earliest memory of Star Wars?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I was a late-starter with Star Wars.\u00a0My dad took me to watch Episode I \u2013 The Phantom Menace<\/em> when it was first released. I remember being inspired by the whole movie – the setting, and how the characters were all styled differently. It was definitely an eye-opening experience for me.<\/p>\n

How did this collab with Star Wars come about and what drew you to it?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is the second time I\u2019m partnering with Disney, following the Minnie Collection. When the opportunity to work on a collection based on Star Wars came about, it was a no-brainer for me. Minnie Mouse and Star Wars are both very iconic but also completely different, so it\u00a0was fun working on two different spectrums of popular culture.<\/p>\n

How did you bring fashion and Star Wars together in the Equilibrium collection?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Like the name suggests, it\u2019s about striking a balance: 50\/50 on Star Wars and the Elohim by Sabrina Goh brand. So I incorporated my signature minimal and structural style (plus menswear elements) with prints of Darth Vader, R2D2, and C3PO to create a cohesive yet wearable collection.<\/p>\n

Who do you envision wearing these pieces?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I don\u2019t have a particular person in mind. I think it\u2019s someone who isn\u2019t necessarily a Star Wars fan, but can appreciate contemporary design.<\/p>\n

Which one is your personal favourite?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Darth Vader Cape Top: Because it has a sketch print of Darth Vader\u2019s face, it gives a little twist to the Star Wars theme.<\/p>\n

Which Star Wars character inspires you the most?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I found it easier to relate to the Dark Side when I’m designing. I might have a hidden dark side in me.<\/p>\n

What is the future of fashion?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Moving forward, I think we\u2019ll be seeing a lot more of fashion merging with technology; be it with digital prints, 3D printing or innovative fabrics like HEATTECH.<\/p>\n

If you were sent to space, what would you take along with you?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My husband, my phone, and my SK-II Facial Treatment Essence \u2013 I have to keep my skin hydrated in space!<\/p>\n
