Come one, come all! Singapore\u2019s grand dame of <\/span>local and <\/span>Southeast Asian <\/span>modern<\/span><\/a> art, National Gallery Singapore, is throwing an epic anniversary bash on its hallowed grounds. From 25-<\/span>27<\/span> November and 2-4 December, the <\/span>Gallery Light to Night Festival<\/span><\/a> is bringing a mind-boggling array of over 60 programmes for both the young and old. Art lovers (or casual observers) will be privy to activities <\/span>ranging <\/span>from art tours and talks, <\/span>to music<\/span> performances, interactive installations, film screenings, and more. With extended hours \u2018til 3am over the two weekends, we say skipping the bars for the arts has\u00a0<\/span>never been a better idea.<\/span><\/p>\n

Explore installations by emerging artists, such as Affinity by Tash Tan and Richard Wong of S1T2, and light designers amigo and amigo at the City Hall Chamber<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Local artists taking over public spaces <\/b>
\nJoin forces with the Organisation of Illustrators Council and create a collaborative sketch at <\/span>Art Alive! \u2013 Draw With The Flow <\/b>(3-4 December) or check out huge blocks of whimsical illustrations by artist collective the Band of Doodlers on the sidewalk outside the National Gallery and at the level 1 concourse. You can even go Insta-crazy under the <\/span>Shimmering Treetops <\/b>installation, which features suspended Swarovski crystals cascading down the Supreme Court Atrium <\/span>terrace.<\/span> There\u2019s also a yarnbombing interpretation of Liu Kang\u2019s iconic painting, Artist and Model at the Padang Atrium \u2013 you might even try your hand at creating art pieces using yarn.<\/span><\/p>\n

A beginner\u2019s guide to art, history and culture<\/b>
\nCan\u2019t seem to get through a museum visit without a case of information overload? Art is now an easier subject to comprehend, thanks to the Gallery, which is offering free and ticketed guided excursions covering exhibitions such as <\/span>the <\/span>Artist and Empire Family Tour<\/b> (25 November and 2 December) and a late-night tour of its galleries during the <\/span>weekends of the <\/span>festival. Better yet, admission to all gallery exhibitions are free on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 25-27 November and 2-4 December!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At Art Conversations<\/strong> (26-27 November and 3-4 December), sign up for free guided tours at the DBS Singapore Gallery that’ll give visitors an authentic walk through Chinatown’s vibrant past, with sessions conducted in Hokkien and Cantonese. Homegrown headliners raising the roof<\/b>\u2028<\/b>
\nWith popular acts like singer-songwriter <\/span>Charlie Lim<\/b> , acapella group <\/span>Budak Pantai<\/b> and jazz crooner <\/span>Nathan Hartono<\/b> (best known for finishing second in Sing! China) taking the stage at the Padang Atrium, and a lineup of DJs and musicians playing from <\/span>11 <\/span>am to 2.30am, the mood is ripe for an all-night <\/span>revelry<\/span> at the Gallery. Don\u2019t forget to bring your dancing shoes, as salsa sessions <\/span>take over<\/span> the floor from 8pm to 11pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Film buffs will have a field day <\/b>
\nGive Netflix a break and pop by the event\u2019s curated line-up of arthouse pictures, short films and documentaries not typically shown at commercial cinemas here. Mull over <\/span>Art Through Our Eyes <\/b>(24 November), an anthology of short films inspired by the museum\u2019s artworks or learn all about Cambodia\u2019s denizens at <\/span>The People of Angkor <\/b>(3 December) and <\/span>A River Changes Course<\/b> (4 December). Check out a free screening of award-winning director Royston Tan\u2019s <\/span>Homecoming<\/b> (26 November), a nostalgic film featuring the residents of Pulau Ubin, so pack your picnic mats and embark on a trip down memory lane at the Padang!<\/span><\/p>\n

Eat, shop, repeat <\/b>
\nWhat\u2019s a festival without two of Singapore\u2019s <\/span>favourite pastime<\/span>s<\/span>? St. Andrew\u2019s Road will be closed and setting up shop on the lot is a Festival Food Street, and an art and design market hawking hand-crafted wares from independent designers and makers.<\/span><\/p>\n
