Fly your plant lady flag high at Tumbleweed: a local plant store with all the wild beauties you need for a beautiful home.
Picture stepping into a store and – almost instantly – feeling your pulse race, palms sweat and pupils dilate, perhaps even forming heart eyes. That was us this morning when we checked out Tumbleweed: a local indie plant store tucked away in the sleepy neighbourhood of Joo Chiat. No matter how small or dark your living space, these guys have a houseplant to make your space pretty, with a cool planter and accessories to match.

Know this: Tumbleweed isn’t your average plant store. Sure, you could go to a nursery where the options are plenty and the prices possibly more pocket-friendly. But, as founder Denise explains, a small, independent store gives you a more personalised experience.
Customers spend an average of 45 minutes here, as the owners take the time to walk you through the range, giving you advice on the one that best fits your space and lifestyle. The store even offers a free repotting service to cater to those who can’t get their hands dirty. Shopping at a nursery, on the other hand, is more of a DIY experience. I speak from experience, as I was left roaming the massive aisles of a nursery alone, wondering what was best for my room and winging my purchases based on five-minute Google research.
Also, despite Tumbleweed’s size, the range of house plants is impressive. You’ll find everything from the trending monstera and fiddle fig leaf plant, to the Chinese money plant and snake plant.
Where Tumbleweeds also has a leg up on your run-of-the-mill plant store is its cool planters. These are sourced from artists around the world, including Australia and Thailand, and come in the quirkiest of styles and shapes. Look closer, and you’ll notice a very lifelike replica of a busom…
Plant (and plant stuff) aside, these guys have got bohemian style in spades. You’ll find accessories that aren’t just for your plants, but home decor to complement the space housing your plants. Have a rummage and you’ll find rattan mirrors in bright, bold colours, macrame art and even cactus-shaped lights.
Guilty of being a serial plant killer? These guys can grow you a green thumb. Watch this space for updates on workshops for the public, or gather your friends for an occasion, and schedule a plant workshop with them. For those who aren’t flower inclined, it’s the perfect way to learn how to arrange plants.
We aren’t just plant ladies; we’re full-time cat ladies too. Call us biased, but we think one of the store’s biggest attractions is its Shop Meownager: Jonathan. While you’re scouting for your greens, make sure to look down lest you trip over the furry staff member.
Cosy, with jazz music softly playing on the speakers, the store makes plant shopping a soothing, fun experience.
