Besides the World Cup, we’re catching some theatre, art (and art books), and even the rugby this weekend, what are you up to?
Walk where the wild beests are
You’ve probably seen the structures in action through the videos online but come and see them in the flesh at the Wind Walkers exhibition at ArtScience Museum. Artist Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests (Dutch for ‘beach animals’) blur the lines between art, science, engineering and performance. Get up close and personal with 13 large-scale Strandbeests in the gallery, from the most recent Strandbeests to ‘fossils’ of past beests including the Animaris Siamesis, which is the largest Strandbeest in the exhibition and measures 10 metres in body length and weighs over 240kg.

Time to get introspective with Ai Weiwei. Photography: Human Flow
Get real with Ai Weiwei
One of the better documentaries this year, Human Flow is an especially balanced and intelligent contemplation on a vital subject. Ai Weiwei, once a refugee himself, keeps it real and accompanies multitudes of oppressed refugees in their agonising march away from persecution and strife in search of a better life. See their journeys as they brave inclement weather, violent opposition and endless marches into uncertainty to discover the best and worst in humanity. Have loads of questions? There will be a post-show panel with the good folks of Advocates for Refugees – Singapore, so don’t leave the cinema just yet!
Ai Weiwei’s ‘Human Flow’ + post show panel, 30 Jun, The Projector, 6001 Beach Road #05-00 Golden Mile Tower, Singapore 199589
