One of the most famous buildings in Singapore, this arts venue boasts more than just major theatre productions and international acts. We plan a perfect day out at The Esplanade
Culture vultures, what better way to spend your days off than at one of Singapore’s most popular and Instagrammable arts venues? From homegrown performances to top fine dining restaurants and exciting boutiques, you’ll never be at a loss for things to do in this iconic building. Aside from catching an epic production (which you’ll find plenty here!), here are five other things you can do at The Esplanade.

1. Cheer on your favourite local musicians at a free concert showcase
The Esplanade may be where art aficionados gather to catch the latest big-name performances, exhibitions and themed festivals, but for those who’d like to check out local and indie musicians, there are also free programmes happening daily at the Concourse, weekly (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at the Outdoor Theatre, and monthly at the Concert Hall. The theme for August is Red Dot Radio, which brings together an impressive line-up of Singaporean musicians performing radio-friendly pop, rock and alternative tunes. If you’re all about celebrating local talent, then bring your friends and family to free concerts by singer-songwriters Leon Markcus (22-23 August), Ethel Yap (24-25 August), Matt-Q (29 August) and Stanley Ho (Aug 30-31).
2. Book a romantic dinner date
There’re heaps more to do at the Esplanade than just exploring its sights and sounds! For foodies, there are first-class restaurants at the connecting Esplanade Mall that are perfect for date nights – we recommend Restaurant Labyrinth for creative mod-Sin dishes by Chef Han Liguang. His chilli crab ice cream and chendol xiao long bao creations are simply delish!
3. Load up on fun and uniquely Singaporean gifts
Local gallery store, Supermama at the Esplanade Mall, is our choice for quirky, Singapore-inspired collectibles. Look out for design-centric items such as ceramic plates emblazoned with famous Singapore icons, and other nostalgic memorabilia on display. And for more made-in-Singapore products, head to the Singapore Design Store to shop for stylish souvenirs ranging from witty slogan T-shirts to cute plushies.
4. Indulge in a relaxing spa session
If you find yourself in desperate need of some me-time after all that shopping and eating, then book an appointment at Kenko Wellness Spa, located within Esplanade Mall too. This foot reflexology and spa chain specialises in soothing massages and reflexology services using special techniques exclusive to Kenko, all set in serene and rejuvenating surrounds
5. Soak in a breathtaking view of the cityscape
For evening drinks, European gastrobar, Orgo, is the place to be. This lovely rooftop venue boasts an amazing panorama of City Hall and beyond, best enjoyed with the restaurant’s signature martinis – we can’t think of a better way to end the night!
