Resorts in Southeast Asia may be a dime a dozen, but it’s not every day that a property worth raving about opens near our shores. Ahead, your next luxury destination for a weekend getaway…

Luxury has a new name in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago: The Residence Bintan. Located just 55 minutes away via ferry, the resort is our all new weekend escape. The beachfront destination is made up of a cluster of 127 terraces and villas, and surrounded by verdant forests and a calm bay. Relaxation is guaranteed no matter your choice of stay. Wake to the sound of crashing waves in the beachfront villa (these come with your own outdoor deck and infinity pool), be greeted by sunrise views and in-villa breakfast at the massive The Estate, or soak in the sea breeze from the double-storeyed Vista Terrace. We recently treated our readers to a three-night stay at The Estate Villa, and yes we’re jealous.

Rosewood Phuket
When thinking of Phuket, it’s hard to quiet the images of the rowdy party streets, or the tourist hordes found on popular island-hopping excursions. But what if we told you that the island is home to a secluded island escape? Nestled along a 600 metre beachfront space along Emerald Bay, Rosewood Phuket features 71 pavilions and villas overlooking the Andaman Sea. These are outfitted to the nines, with floor-to-ceiling windows, king-sized beds, spacious living areas and private infinity-edge pools. We’ve also got major love for its environmentally sensitive design. The resort features the largest solar renewable energy system on the island, rain water retention ponds to fuel the water supply and “landscaped” rooftops for energy conservation.

Sala Samui Chaweng Beach Resort
Located on the pristine Chaweng Beach, this stunning new property is all about luxe pool suites and villas. Paying homage to Thailand’s lunar seasons, the circular motifs plays heavily into its design, with circular bathtubs, curved archways and full moon-inspired lighting fixtures. White is its primary colour, resulting in a clean aesthetic that has one thinking of Santorini. Its other star is the restaurant: The Tent Beachfront Restaurant and Bar, which offers an array of dining spaces for different moods (think private gazebos, outdoor decks or intimate dining rooms) and a menu of fresh seafood, Thai classics and international fare.
