The socially conscious Singaporean clothing label will feature biodegradable fabric and ethical production
Here at Honeycombers, we’re major fans of sustainable fashion (hurrah for guilt-free threads!). A local label we love for its socially conscious message is MATTER. If you’re new to the brand, here’s what you need to know: it champions connected clothing – essentially knowing where something is made, and by whom. And its three new launches have given us a cause for celebration; marking a return to its roots, the brand is taking its old motifs and putting them on new, natural and biodegradable fabrics. Here’s a brief breakdown of the three upcoming releases.
Organic cotton
MATTER finally comes full-circle with its initial plans of starting an organic cotton line. It’s exciting news for ethical fashion advocates. Organic cotton poses less harm to the environment and farmers, as it doesn’t involve toxic chemicals used in the creation of conventional cotton. With this launch, expect breezy yet structured trousers made of organic cotton twill.

Crêpe Silk
MATTER’s also celebrating the ultra luxe crêpe silk with its new premium line. Note that the trousers in this launch aren’t your average silk pants; these are blockprinted – a real feat considering the fabric is rarely printed on (we hear much convincing had to be made for the brand’s fifth generation blockprinter). Slinky and flattering on all forms, these trousers are also suitable for all climates.
Launch date: 9 March
IChing
Continuing its signature look of prints, MATTER is launching a brand new motif featuring the elements of fire and water. Based on ancient divination texts which guided Taoism and Confucianism, IChing reinterprets symbols from the fire and water sequence with more fluid and spontaneous forms of brushstrokes. Colourways for this are inspired by nature, with jade hues of the ocean and fire’s beige gradients. The motif is blockprinted in the Classic Wideleg, Sideswept Dhoti, and ButtonBack (a top in an entirely new style) and come in both organic cotton and crêpe silk.
