Get in the kampong spirit at Kampong Glam as Baghdad Street stops traffic for a weekend flea market filled with good food, live performances and cool knick-knacks
More than just a treasure trove of international food, beautiful fabrics and eye-catching street art, the neighbourhood of Kampong Glam holds a spot in every Singapore culture vulture’s bucket list. Yes, we already love all the restaurants and bars in Arab Street and shops down Haji Lane, but gastronomes and shopaholics alike are gonna love seeing Baghdad Street transform into a flea market paradise. For the first time, So Gelam Market will take over the idyllic street from 27 to 29 April with plenty of food stalls and lifestyle products to get your hands on.
So Gelam Market will transform the lively street into an old-meets-new wonderland of cultures from all over the world. Decked in a kaleidoscope of colourful tents, fairy lights and batik buntings, stop by the stalls for freshly cooked food, drinks and snacks such as handmade cookies by Gula, mocktails by Atap, teas by Kecha, fried fish skin and poke bowls by Fish Sh-nack, cakes and sweet treats by T-Breakz, and more.
Splash your cash on beauty products by Aura Nur Spa, new threads by Frock & Flock, bamboo homewares by Glambue, batik clothes by Heartakarun, handcrafted pins and cushions by Kush Kush by Em, canvas bags and planners by Original Ordinary, and more. If you’re all about ethical shopping, check out Sonder Social who will be there with its selection of compassion boxes (read our interview with the brains behind Asia’s first ethical subscription box). By BloomzRush and Awesome Free Stuff will also set up stalls with pre-loved goodies, where you can donate too.
That’s not all – there will be plenty of shaded lawns and decorated spaces for you to sprawl out while you catch live performances and munch on your snacks. Can’t sit still? Work those hands at an art workshop by Art Doctor. For those in need of an extra recharge, grab a spot for a complimentary elbow, wrist and hand massage therapy by Pinky Senses. That’s your last April weekend all sorted.
So Gelam Market, 27 April (8pm-11pm), 28 April (2pm-11pm), 29 April (2pm-9pm), Baghdad Street, Kampong Glam, Singapore
