With a plethora of creative workshops, museums and art exhibitions dotted around the city, it’s apparent that Singapore is a lover of art and creativity (did we mention that Singapore’s title as the UNESCO Creative City of Design?). Great news for the artsy type: Singapore Design Week 2018 is back this March with plenty of events and activities lined up. Don’t know where to start? Catch cool independent vendors at Holland Village
10-18 March
Making its Singapore Design Week debut is District Design Dialogue Holland village. Witness Holland Village turn into a temporary gathering of independent vendors across a variety of design categories including fashion, food, music and craft. Check out a range of activities held at various sites in the district for visitors to experience design in a fun way — think cosy performances in someone’s living room, interactive art installations in an unexpected setting, and craft sessions to create your own masterpieces.

Based on the theme ‘A State In Play’, SingaPlural 2018 is a celebration of the pre-design prep work. In Play, there are no failed experiments, only experiments with unexpected outcomes. Explore these trials and prototypes at SingaPlural 2018. Besides the 15 installations, there will also be master lecture classes conducted by international speakers for the curious minds.

Experience the future of furniture shopping

Looking to update your sweet digs with fresh home additions? In conjunction with the ASEAN Furniture Show (AFS) and NOOK Asia, the annual International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) will feature a comprehensive range of furniture, furnishing, decorative accessories, interiors and fittings by a diverse portfolio of top-notch exhibitors from about 40 countries. Unlike any other fair, it is also a multi-sensorial show experience that introduces technology, celebrates design and facilitates connections so visitors can expect innovative and inspired design and high-quality furniture, interiors and fittings.

Shophouse & Co is back with the fifth edition of Design Trails decked in brand new name and format. The newly branded City Ramble Design Trails will take participants on an adventure further from the city centre where you can discover unique places and experience design through stories, demos, workshops and installations. Sprawl around the precinct

The National Heritage Board (NHB) will be organising the BBB Arts Sprawl to create further buzz at Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB), the ultimate district for art and design types. Held over two days, NHB aims to create a vibrant, energetic and inclusive arts and heritage district through an array of exciting programmes, street art and many more within the sub-zones of Bras Basah.Bugis. Taking on a design slant, Arts Sprawl returns to Queen Street with a plethora of activities ranging from performances and interactive installations to art workshops and market.

Once again, the great Keong Saik Road will be grounds for another Urban Ventures street party – and we’re not complaining. As always we’re looking forward to some great food, family-friendly activities, live music from local bands, the hottest bangers from renowned DJs, entertaining performances by drag stunners and this round, innovative design as the street party will be part of the Singapore Urban Design Festival 2018. As part of Singapore Design Week’s list of happenings, Boutiques at the Pit Building returns for its Spring/Summer 2018 edition featuring exclusive collection launches, fringe activities, workshops, fashion shows and more! 9-11, 16-18 March
As part of i Light Marina Bay, Singapore’s longest-running design marketplace will not only give you some late-night shopping goodness from over 50 makers but over 10 art, craft and design workshops conducted by local and international creatives from Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia. Try your hands on binding sustainable materials into notebooks via hand-stitching with CY Chen, discover new art at the Zentangle workshop by Kit Low, or create customised paper seed balls that can germinate into plants with Jennifer Mong.
