Heads up all you design fanatics, here’s something to look forward to this March: Singapore Design Week (SDW) returns for its third instalment – hurrah! After earning the title of UNESCO City of Design, the design community in Singapore is more than ready to put forth their best (and most eye-popping) design ideas and works, to share their colourful passion with the public. From March 8 to 20, grab your friends and families, and head over to the National Design Centre (NDC) and other locations around the island to experience the biggest edition of SDW ever. With more than 100 events and programmes, look out for the plethora of brand new happenings at SDW 2016. You bet your bums we’re stoked!
Wanna dabble in design-led endeavours? Join the Innovation by Design Conference where top design leaders and chiefs of design-centric businesses inspire you with their success stories. This year’s keynote speakers include Mr Masaaki Kanai, Chairman & Representative Director of Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd (parent company of Japanese manufacturer and retail giant MUJI), and Mr Jaime Hayon, acknowledged by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most relevant creators of these times.
Looking for a more hands-on experience? Visit the Design and Make Fair @ NDC where you can showcase your creativity by designing and producing your very own merchandise at its various workshops – from soap-crafting and glass-painting to leather-crafting and ceramic doll-making. Here, you’ll also be introduced to an extensive array of ‘Designed in Singapore’ and ‘Made in Singapore’ products, presented to you by 30 homegrown designers, craftsmen and artisan under one roof.
Catch the transformation of Keong Saik Road into an arts carnival with interactive installations, art performances and creative workshops, and experience public space design in this first-ever placemaking project by Urban Ventures. Psst…there’ll also be an awesome street party with music, drinks and dancing in the evening! Meanwhile, get acquainted with the works from 125 recipients of the President’s Design Award 2006 – 2015 * A Decade of Design Excellence at a special anniversary exhibition at NDC.
