Already looking for the best parties in May? This silent rave will change your perception of clubbing completely
When you put a bunch of blissed-out ravers in a room that’s vibing with dance music… does it make a sound? Not at the clubbing phenomenon known as Silent Disco! You might already be familiar with the name if you’re a frequent dancefloor punter, but here’s the gist of it if you’re clueless. Launched in London, the underground party invites a cosy bunch of revellers (it’s not too crammed, so it’s cosy!) and gives each one a set of headphones that live-streams music from a performing DJ. What’s the point, you ask? It filters out any unnecessary small talk and excessive flirting, immersing guests in the only element that matters at these events – the music. No pressures… just dance!

So when we heard that Silent Disco Asia was launching in Singapore – at Kult Kafé, possibly the hippest party hideout in town at the mo’ – our ears couldn’t believe it. And what a debut is it turning out to be: on 14 May, there will be three DJs playing live sets simultaneously, and you’ll have a button on your headphones that lets you switch between frequencies to hear the different performers. The green channel means disco, the blue channel means house music, and the red channel even gives you rock music; you have the power to choose what you wanna dance to. And even cooler, your headphones will have lights that change colour in relation to your listening choice, so if you wanna dance with others to some 4/4 cuts, stick with the blue-lit ravers on the floor and sync those moves.
Or if you wanna be cheeky, put on your red rock channel and hang out with the greens to disrupt their party mojo with your out-of-sync choreography. Maybe if your dance fever’s infectious enough, you can get everyone to join you on the same channel! This oughta’ be fun…
