Goodbye, Shop Wonderland. You’ll be missed.
Are you sitting down? Everyone’s favourite insta-worthy CBD cafe Shop Wonderland has closed down. Yup, that escalated quickly. There’s a gaping hole in Telok Ayer street (and in our hearts) where this lovely concept store and cafe once stood. Silver lining? Luckily, there is one. Plain Vanilla will be taking over that spot, saving us all a trip to Tiong Bahru for their delicious bakes.
For now, we’re still bummed out about Shop Wonderland’s sudden closure. They’ve been around for eight long years… that’s forever in millennial time. A Haji Lane favourite, it moved down the street to Telok Ayer in early 2017. And what a warm, inviting sight it was! If you ask us, it was humanly impossible to walk in without whipping out your phone to take a picture. Point in any direction and you’d end up with a ‘gram-worthy mood shot at the botanical-themed space.

We’ll miss the ‘crazy-plant lady meets crazier coffee x book lover’ vibe. Those dried herbs bunched together, house plants dotting the space and that dreamy feature wall made of pages of an old book. We’ll miss their good coffee, entirely Pinteresty cakes, fresh flowers that made us swoon and delicious food that we often refused to share with pals.
We hear owner Melissa Wang took the tough call (family comes first, after all), and closed down her cafe and floral studio in the last week of July 2018. Unexplainably craving those Shop Wonderland cakes? Good for us that Melissa’s partner Sarah Khaw who runs her own cake studio Sarah’s Loft is still baking away. Psst… we might be seeing their famous florist service around too. Stay tuned for more.

Want a piece to remember your nook? Shop Wonderland is hosting a massive clearance sale from 6 – 10 August 2018. Everything from art prints and lamps that have travelled with them for Haji Lane, to outdoor furniture and craft beer cartons are up for grabs. Things are moving quick and you’ll find things for as little as 50 cents (if it’s not sold already).
Stick around, we’ll keep you posted. And keep your eyes peeled for our weekly Hot New Cafes to find your new favourite cafe.
