Marina Bay Sands is bringing loads of family-friendly fun to the waterfront this August – and all in the name of charity
With two short work weeks happening back-to-back, August has got to be one of our favourite months this year. But if you haven’t made any travel plans yet, there are heaps of things to do that’ll keep your calendars full. For starters, Marina Bay Sands’ annual charity event, the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, is landing once again at the Event Plaza. Happening from 24 to 26 August, this family-friendly fiesta is one crowd pleaser you don’t want to miss.
Raising nearly $20 million for local charities to date, the Festival has some exciting highlights lined up in this year’s edition. Look out for a stunning artwork of Marina Bay Sands by 15 year-old artist Leong Sijun, who has Down Syndrome (and don’t forget to take loads of selfies!)
Be sure to make your way to the Festival at Event Plaza, where you can pile your plates with food and enjoy drinks from Marina Bay Sands’ award-winning restos such as db Bistro & Oyster Bar, LAVO Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar, The Bird Southern Table & Bar and Bread Street Kitchen & Bar – all for a good cause. Chefs from these dining hotspots will also be serving up their signature menu items such as cheeseburgers, meatballs, chicken and biscuits with the help of beneficiaries from local social enterprise Dignity Kitchen, a hawker training school for those who are disabled or disadvantaged. Come show your support for the community, as proceeds from F&B sales will go towards Community Chest!
It’s all about good vibes at this festival and setting the mood are live performances by budding local musicians Supersonic, 53A and HubbaBubbas, who are taking the stage every evening. Great news if you’re bringing the kids: the event also features fringe activities ranging from a magnet photo booth, art jamming and drone fishing throughout the evening. You’ll also want to pop by ArtScience Museum, Sands SkyPark and the Digital Light Canvas, or take a leisurely boat ride on a sampan over the festival weekend, as proceeds from ticket sales at these attractions will be donated to local charities such Association for Persons with Special Needs, AWWA and Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore.
Planning an entire weekend at Marina Bay? Check out the Community Chest Heartstrings Walk from 8.15am to 11.30am on 25 August, or cheer on fellow members of the public on 26 August at Play It Forward and Play It Forward Junior – the Festival’s signature charity challenges for adults and kids, where teams represent local charities and complete fun games across Marina Bay Sands to secure cash prizes.
