Sate your burger cravings and enjoy ice-cold craft beer at Telok Ayer’s newest American-style burger joint from New York City
If you’re no stranger to The Big Apple, you’re probably well-acquainted with NYC burger institution, Burger Joint. And in case you haven’t heard yet, this speakeasy for burgers is opening in Singapore this week! The new Singaporean outlet, hidden away in Gemmill Lane, brings to mind retro diners and unpretentious American fare. True to its décor, the husband-and-wife duo behind Burger Joint, Nicholas and Benedicte Heaney, are adherents of the no-nonsense, fuss-free burger experience.
This simplicity works in its favour; by eschewing exotic sauces and even salt and pepper, you’re left with a burger that easily shows off the quality of its ingredients. Using cheese and beef sourced from the same farms as Burger Joint New York, it’s obvious that no detail has been left out in perfectly recreating the original.
The proof is in the first bite of your burger, and it’s a perfect example of the quintessential American burger done right – from the crisp, fresh lettuce and onions to the generous portions of melty cheese and, of course, the all-beef patties (served at your choice of doneness; I recommend the medium). And the pocket-friendly pricing of just $13.80 for a cheeseburger with “the works” is the cherry on top… but there’s more to love here!
While its diner-like décor may suggest Budweisers and Coors Lite, Nicholas’ passion for craft beer has led him to put 18 boutique beers on tap, some of which have never been available on draft in Singapore. You’ll also find a vast selection of American Bourbons; have ’em neat, on the rocks, or, if you prefer, in a selection of classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and The Manhattan. So go ahead, take things up a notch and pair your cheeseburger with a quality cocktail; you’ll be living life just like ’em New Yorkers do.
