2. FYSH at EDITION
Can’t pick a favourite among seafood, fish and meat? Have it all at this seafood steakhouse! Sustainability is at the heart of this first restaurant outside Australia by award-winning chef-partner Josh Niland, who was recently honoured with Three Hats by the Australia Good Food Guide Awards 2024. Expect top-quality and ethically-sourced ingredients, alongside a focus on mitigating food wastage. Every part of the fish, seafood and meat is appreciated here, with the use of often-overlooked components to create unexpected new delicacies.
Come Sundays, indulge in a well-deserved respite with chef Josh’s special Roast menu. Available from 12pm to 3pm, it includes tantalising starters (like swordfish empanadas and a selection of raw line-caught fish), succulent meats and seafood, as well as decadent treats from the dessert trolley. The Roast menu is priced at $108 per person, but feel free to amp up the weekend celebrations with free-flowing champagne and Australian bubbly (from $168 per pax).

3. Drim Korean Steak House
There’s no need to book a flight to Seoul when you can savour authentic Korean food in Orchard. Drim prides itself on serving traditional dishes prepared with modern techniques. 8. Tampopo
Although you can get both Kyushu- and Hokkaido-style ramen here, the bowl worth guzzling down is Tampopo’s deluxe black pig shabu ramen. Thin, stringy, fatty and packed with intense flavour, the addition of kurobuta really accentuates this creamy broth. Please toss an onsen egg in while you’re at it; this one has bliss oozing out of it.

9. Ayam Penyet Ria
Affordable and hella authentic, Far East Plaza’s Ayam Penyet Ria is on everyone’s Orchard Road ‘fave food’ list. Especially famous for penyet (smashed) food, it serves some of the best Indonesian halal food on the island. If you haven’t already tried it, order the ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken) first and work your way down the menu. Oh, and the sambal belacan is all kinds of spicy and goes with everything… we love it!

10. Guzman Y Gomez
Just ’cos you’re strapped for time doesn’t mean you have to skimp out on a hearty lunchtime feed. Pop by Guzman Y Gomez and order some gut-busting Mexican classics like burritos, tacos, fajitas and quesadillas. You’ve got a modest selection of fillings to choose from, both spicy and non-spicy, but our firm favourite is the signature spicy chicken (in a burrito!). The food is takeaway-friendly and the service is fast, so you’ll be in and out in no time.

11. Violet Oon Singapore
This cosy bistro is a treasure trove of Nyonya cuisine. Helmed by renowned food connoisseur Violet Oon, her eponymous and chic eatery celebrates Singapore’s rich cultural diversity. 14. Tenya
Tendon chain restaurant Tenya specialises in tempura. It sources ingredients directly from Japan and uses Japanese Aomori rice and a secret recipe for its tempura batter, but the prices are pretty wallet-friendly. Go for the Tenya tendon, which features tempura prawn, red fish, squid, pumpkin and French beans. Or try the seafood tendon – it’s similar to the former but with a replacement of squid for eel and scallop. Other munchies include curry fries, ebi tempura and the must-try Hokkaido soft serve.

15. 8 Korean BBQ
This upscale Korean barbecue restaurant takes its name from its signature 8 Colour Set. It features thick, long strips of Mangalitsa pork belly flavoured in eight ways: original, wine, curry, garlic, miso, herb, kalbi and red pepper paste. But like any all-rounded Korean BBQ restaurant, that’s not the only cut of meat worth having. Don’t miss out on top-notch beef selections alongside Atlantic salmon and Korean squid on the grill. 17. Lawry’s The Prime Rib
For the past 20 odd years, American dining establishment Lawry’s has been a meat eater’s haven. Its signature dish – the prime rib – is aged up to 28 days, so it’s oh-so-tender and packed with flavour. Fab food, old world charm, grand chandelier and amazing tableside service (that little flourish as your spinning salad is served gets us every time) put this steakhouse on our list.

18. Social Place
When we’re hankering for yum cha, this is one of our go-to spots. Tucked away in Forum The Shopping Mall and decked out in Art Deco aesthetics, Social Place puts a playful spin on its dim sum dishes, making it a feast for our eyes and stomachs. For instance, the small pig pudding comes in the shape of a – wait for it – wobbly pig. Adorable! Other novelty delights include mahjong jelly, steamed rose floret buns and truffle shiitake buns.

19. Five Guys
Get a load of juicy burgers, glorious milkshakes and a side of retro diner vibes at this American burger chain. Picky eaters will love that all orders can be customised according to your taste. 20. Seorae Jib
This Korean BBQ joint makes a good post-shopping meal. Located in Dhoby Ghaut, Seorae Jib specialises in a unique smoking method where hay and oakwood are used to impart an earthy aroma to the meat. Swing by during dinner time for a full-blown feast of succulent grills, or try the hanjeongsik lunch menu for a mouthwatering spread of barbecue meats and nine banchan dishes.

One of the best new cafes to emerge in the Orchard district is Ami Patisserie, which first started as an online pastry shop in 2021. 22. Puzzle Coffee
While attention is directed to this Melburnian coffeehouse’s new outlet at Dempsey Hill, we can’t forget its first foray into Singapore. 23. Nowafter Cafe
If you’re all about monochromatic aesthetics, you’ll feel right at home here. Taking over the third-level space in Design Orchard, Nowafter Cafe is all about grungy industrialist decor accented with black furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows. Looking for an IG-worthy cafe? We found a gorgeous spot in Paragon. Meet Avenue on 3 Cafe, which is all decked out in pink with rattan chairs and palm fronds. There are many ways to beat the heat in Singapore. One top tip is to nip into this cool spot and order Korean bingsu. Out of all the flavours, you can never go wrong with Oreo bingsu. Tucked away in the Tanglin Post Office building, this bistro is located at the edge of Orchard Road. It may be an extra bus ride from the MRT station, but the food’s worth the extra journey. The atmosphere is casual and good for group gatherings, and the menu is extensive, comprising all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner options alongside desserts and drinks. Egg lovers can indulge in a long list of egg dishes alongside pasta plates. We recommend the chilli crab pasta, which certainly delivers a spicy kick.
