A rematch you don’t want to miss: fierce female martial artists Angela Lee and Mei Yamaguchi face off at the Singapore Indoor Stadium this 18 May.
Cue the Rocky soundtrack, because we are gearing up for one of the most exciting sporting events to hit town. Blockbuster martial arts event ONE Championship is returning to the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 18 May and one of its many highlights includes a face-off between Singapore’s defending ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee and veteran Japanese martial artist Mei Yamaguchi.
Billed as ‘the greatest rematch in women’s martial arts history’, this one night-only showdown is no doubt a nail-biting contest – the match was previously postponed as Lee was involved in a car accident back in November. But we’re glad this tough cookie’s now up and ready to kick some butt at ONE: Unstoppable Dreams. There’s plenty at stake for her too, as Yamaguchi’s been gunning for her title since their epic clash in 2016. Psst… we heard that their last encounter at ONE: Ascent to Power was widely considered to be one of the finest in women’s martial arts
It’s not just the women who’ll be in the spotlight. This time, the event’s featuring three world title bouts in one night. 19 year-old Christian Lee (Angela’s brother) will be pitting himself against ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion Martin Nguyen, a veteran with several first-round stoppage wins under his belt. This will be the first time a pair of siblings are competing for a world title in the same night, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for a double win!
Fans of Muay Thai, it’s time to buy some tickets: the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Championship is calling both multiple-time Muay Thai world champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Lion Fight lightweight champion Sergio Wielzen to the cage. It’s anyone’s guess who will be walking away with the coveted crown.
