Muji has already schooled us on the fact that cool linen is a wardrobe essential in Singapore. But now we know their collection is organic we’re never letting these pieces go…
Muji has always been known for supplying classic staples for every wardrobe and climate. Now, this Japanese brand is launching a linen collection that promises to be even comfier than any other Muji item you have in your stash, with some serious eco-credentials to earn a place in your wardrobe for a long time to come. Here’s why we’re in love with Muji’s organic linen…
Linen basics are our staples
Busy mornings and a messy wardrobe really do not mix well. If we’re thinking capsule wardrobe potential, Muji’s timeless basics pretty much go with anything.
One of the key womenswear pieces in the latest collection is the organic linen washed 3/4 sleeve blouse (pictured top), featuring a clean, crisp neckline. With the right accessories, this piece could just as easily take you to a Sunday brunch or to your workplace.
These linen blouses also go well with the linen maxi skirts and tapered trousers in the collection, for an all-linen look that keeps you comfy throughout the day. For a more formal occasion, dress things up with a linen shirt in your favourite colours. On the other hand, our lazy day picks include the 3/4 linen sleeve dress that requires practically no styling at all.
The menswear series includes a smart French linen washed stand collar shirt that captured our eyes. Another one of those multitasking pieces, we reckon it’ll be a wardrobe staple for years.
Smart casual basics include the French linen jacket, a simple blazer that you can throw on over a simple tee to take your outfit from the streets to the office in a second. We also recommend the French linen easy trousers, which are as easy to style as its name suggests.

What is organic linen and why do we love it?
This rare material is made from organic flax, grown in the northern part of the Taklamakan Desert – the largest in China – near the foot of the Tianyama mountain. Never heard of these places? We don’t blame you. (We did say the fabric was rare!)
Being organic, of course, means that the flax is grown without synthetic agricultural chemicals. Which is easy since there are few pests in that pocket of the Taklamakan, at an altitude of 1800 metres. It’s also the perfect spot for the crop to grow with freshly melted water from the snow.
You’ve probably noticed we’re being a lot more thoughtful about our fashion around here, and we love our organic pieces (it gets two thumbs up from us for being friendly to farmers and the environment!), but aside from that, Muji’s organic linen is amazing because it takes comfy dressing up a few notches. The natural fibre – which is already really soft – gets softer with each wash, making it one of the best long-term investments for your wardrobe. We’re calling it: these are forever pieces.
